She was born May 15, 1950 in Marion to the late Leo and Mary (Winters) Houk. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Kreis. Kathy graduated from Ridgedale High School in 1968. On November 25, 1988, she married Steven Thiel, and they spent the next 35 years together.
