| Martha L. Carter Hicks attended the former black Baptist Church that was founded in Richwood in the early 1900s on East Ottawa Street. Her home was the home base for African Americans coming back to Richwood to keep in touch with local activities because she had a keen knowledge of local events and family in the area. She and her husband were strong supporters of North Union sports and she was an avid reader of newspapers.

God gave her the heart of a servant and she spent a lifetime caring for and loving her family. She loved to cook massive family meals and she had a passion for sewing and making quilts. | Susan Jane Hicks oved to crochet, do puzzles and most importantly had a deep love of Jesus and her dog buddy. She loved her family, her husband, kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite colors are blue and purple. She will be missed by the many nieces, nephews and friends in her life. She belonged to the Heart of God Ministries International.
