Thelma was an active member of the Union Baptist Church until declining health prevented her from going. She spent her spare time making “grandma” quilts, doll clothes and embroidering pillowcases for her family.  In 1987 she reached her goal of making a quilt for every member of her family for Christmas.  Her children and grandchildren still treasure these quilts today.  Time with her grandchildren was very important to Thelma.
