David A. Thompson Jr., 79 of Marion, died Friday October 9, 2026 at Marion General Hospital. He was born October 10, 1946 in Athens to the late David A. Thompson Sr. and Mary (Kennedy) Shertzer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue (Hanna) Thompson, they were married April 1, 1970 and she died July 2, 2024. He was also predeceased by a sister, Ellen Rife. Dave served our country in the United Sates Army. He was a retired electrician, having worked for Erie Railroad, Marion Power Shovel, Marion Steel and Nucor. Dave loved being outdoors, he loved life in the country, enjoyed walks in the woods and just being with nature. He was a man of few words, but he loved his family deeply. Surviving are his children, David Alvin Roe (Angel Hanlon) Thompson of Marion, Kellie (Rick Terry) Thompson of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Candace Clegg of Marion Grandchildren, Josh Coy, Justin Clegg, Sydney Whiting, Heath Coy, Samantha Deberry, Skyler Thompson and Cassi Hartwell And eleven great grandchildren Memorial services will be held Friday October 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue. Pastor Barkley Slone will officiate. Burial will follow in the LaRue Cemetery, where there will be Military Honors provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in LaRue.
