  Michael A. Jordan, 78, of Marion, Ohio, died peacefully in his sleep on September 10, 2026 at his home.
Mike was born on March 2, 1948, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, to Willard and Hallie (Coyle) Jordan. The oldest of seven boys, he grew up on his family’s farms near Richwood, where he and his brothers got into plenty of mischief, keeping their parents on their toes. He graduated in 1966 from North Union High School in Richwood, where he met his high school sweetheart, Kathy “Sue” Lane. They married in 1968 and had two children, Tina and Jeffrey. Mike served in the United States Air Force, including time as a fuels specialist during the Vietnam War, and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was always proud of his service and country. He spent his career at the Whirlpool Corporation, retiring after 45 years. Mike’s faith in Jesus was an integral part of his life. Over the years, he served in the sound booth at several churches and also provided sound for the King’s Harvest Singers, a gospel ministry in which Sue sang. His faith remained a source of comfort and strength throughout his life. Sports were a lifelong interest for Mike. In his younger years, he loved coaching baseball, especially his son’s teams, and was a loyal Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State fan. Those who knew him best can easily picture him settled into his recliner with a game on TV, perfectly content to stay awhile. Mike appreciated life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, going out to eat, listening to oldies, answering Jeopardy! questions, and anything that satisfied his sweet tooth, especially one of Sue’s fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies. He had a soft spot for dogs and loved many over the years, including Maggie, Grady, Eli, Molly, and Carly, and was known to slip them a table scrap or two when he thought no one was looking. Above all, Mike was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. Never one to seek the spotlight, he was happiest behind the scenes, supporting the people he loved and taking pride in their interests and accomplishments. Whether helping with music and art supplies, attending events, or encouraging their creative pursuits, he expressed his love and generosity in small, thoughtful ways. Mike reunited in heaven with his beloved son, Jeffrey; his parents; and his brother, Terry. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue; daughter, Tina (Matthew) Taylor of Lakeview; grandchildren, Wesley (Melissa) Kennedy of Worthington, and Thea (Vincenzo) DiPerna of Independence; great-grandson, Charlie; brothers, Paul (Billie) Jordan of Richwood; Phillip Jordan of Akron; Lee (Tesa) Jordan of Zanesfield; Roger Jordan of Kentucky; and John (Sherri) Jordan of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews; and his dog-daughter, Carly. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Russ Borland officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans. In Mike’s spirit, those attending the services are encouraged to dress comfortably and wear their favorite team’s colors or apparel. Memorial gifts may be made to Marion County Humane Society and the Wounded Warrior Project.
