  Daniel Robert Justin, 82, of Richwood, passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2026, at 9:42 a.m., surrounded by the love of his family.
Daniel was born on January 15, 1944 in Marion, to the late Robert Justin and Bonnie Virginia (Grace) Steinhaur. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and faithfully served his country, which he loved. During his military service, he and his beloved wife, Judy, lived in that state up North at the Selfridge AirForce Base where he did maintenance on Nike Hercules missiles, where later they were stationed in Elsfleth, Germany where they began building a life filled with adventure, love, and lasting memories. On October 31, 1965 Daniel married the love of his life, Judy (Moore), in Delaware. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, hard work, and unconditional love. Their marriage was one of partnership, devotion, and commitment through every season of life. Daniel worked for many years as a maintenance man at Anheuser-Busch. He took great pride in his work and believed in the value of earning an honest living. He was a provider in every sense of the word, always making sure his family was cared for and teaching them the importance of responsibility, perseverance, and integrity. A lifelong learner, Daniel had a deep love of history and enjoyed sharing stories and knowledge with those around him. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, with football being his most favorite. He looked forward to cheering on his team every season. He also enjoyed horse racing and appreciated the tradition and excitement of the sport. Daniel's greatest passion was being on the water with his wife. Whether fishing or sailing his beloved sailboat, Windwalker, he found peace and freedom with the wind at his back. A self-taught sailor, he embraced every challenge with determination and confidence, proving that dedication and hard work could accomplish anything. He also found joy in coaching young athletes coaching his own son and daughters’ youth teams and at North Union Middle School football, where he taught not only the fundamentals of sports but also the values of teamwork, discipline, respect, and character. His influence extended far beyond the playing field. More than anything, Daniel loved his family. He was the proud father of Matt (Angie) Justin and Danielle (Craig) Justin Ruhl, all of Richwood. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, Kaine Ransome, Klarke (Sydney) Ransome, Kole (McKenzie) Justin, Maddison Padovano, Kennady (Devan) Vanderpool, and Maxwell Ruhl. Above all else, he loved his family. Nothing made him happier than gathering with those he loved. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was their biggest fan. No matter what sport, the weather, or the distance, he wanted to be there. Watching them play brought him immeasurable joy. He celebrated every hit, every touchdown, every basket, every accomplishment, and every effort. He was endlessly proud of each one of them and made sure they knew it. His greatest joy continued with his six great-grandchildren: Kallie Kay, Baylor Daniel, Cooper James, Quinn Avery, Kelani Kay, and Baby Justin on the way. They brought endless smiles to his life and were a constant reminder of the legacy he was building through generations. Daniel believed one of his greatest responsibilities was preparing his family for life. He taught his wife and children practical skills, problem-solving, independence, and resilience. His advice wasn't always what they wanted to hear, but it was always honest and given with love. The lessons he shared became the foundation his family continues to rely upon today. His greatest gift was ensuring those he loved would have the strength, knowledge, and confidence to carry on. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Justin and Bonnie Virginia Steinhower; his stepfather Walter Steinhaur; his brother, Michael Justin; and his sister, Rebecca Rees. Daniel was a faithful man. His faith quietly guided his life and was reflected in the kindness, humility, and dedication he showed to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, adventurous spirit, love of the outdoors, dedication to his family, and willingness to help others. He leaves behind his beloved wife, his children, his six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many extended family members and friends, as well as his best friend Woody (his dog) who will forever cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held Friday July 31, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Friends may call Friday July 31, 2026 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home in Richwood. Daniel will be laid to rest at the Claibourne Cemetery on Friday August 7, 2026 at 11:00 am, where Military Honors will be given by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095 to recognize his faithful service to his country. Friends and family can wear Ohio State clothing to the funeral and calling hours to honor Dan’s love for The Buckeyes. Though he is no longer with us, his presence will forever be felt in the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, the waters he loved, the games he never missed, and the family who will carry his legacy forward with pride and gratitude.
