Gary B. Cox, 71 of Richwood, died Monday March 30, 2026 at his home.
He was born January 21, 1955 in Marion to the late Bert Cox and Helen (Jones) Cox Hoodlet. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Darryl Cox.
He grew up in Prospect and carried with him the values and grit of rural Ohio throughout his life. From a young age, Gary had a deep compassion for animals, often bringing home strays, rescues, and injured wildlife, a habit that continued well into adulthood.
Gary married Emma (Statts) shortly after high school, and together they raised Garrison, Heath, and Christopher.
Gary spent much of his working life in factory jobs. Outside of work, he was an avid motorcycle rider who found peace and freedom on the open road, especially during rides through the Smoky Mountains and visits to Maggie Valley, a place he held close to his heart.
He is survived by his wife Emma, and by his children, Garrison Cox of Radnor, Heath Cox of Richwood, and Christopher (Alydia Fultz) Cox of Richwood. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Avery (Alison) Cox, Ryan (Molly) Cox, Isaiah (Courtney) Cox, Samantha (Devin) Mallory, Rilee Cox and Ayzalean Cox
10 great grandchildren.
Sister, Rena Yates of Richwood
Gary was not a quiet man or an easy man, but he was always himself. He had a stubborn streak, a soft spot for animals, and a way of leaving an impression wherever he went. He lived life on his own terms, and those who knew him will remember him exactly as he was.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 4, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Heath Cox will officate. Friends may call two hours prior, beginning at 11 am at the funeral home in Richwood.
