 Vaughn Vernon Kearns, 89 of Franklin, Indiana, formerly of LaRue, died Monday March 23, 2026 at the Indiana Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was born July 3, 1936 in Union County to the late James and Gladys (Shirk) Kearns. He was also preceded in death by brother, Basil Kearns and sister-in-law, Cheryl Diegle
Vaughn graduated from LaRue High School in 1954. He was a lifelong resident of Union and Marion Counties until he and Norma moved to Indiana to be with family in 2012.
He had worked as machinist and tool maker at Laurel Corporation in Columbus, and then
worked 46 years as a machinist, tool maker, and in research and development at United Aircraft Products (Parker Hannifin) in Forest.
Vaughn had operated family farm for 55 years and served our country in The Ohio National Guard as a surveyor in the artillery.
His interests include reading adventure and history books, oil painting, flying/aircraft, aircraft design, studying history, automobiles, travel and family.
Surviving is his wife, Norma (Harper) Kearns, they were married May 28, 1960 in Marion County. Also surviving are their sons, Mark (Lisa) Kearns of Monroe, North Carolina and Douglas (Heidi) Kearns of Greenwood, Indiana
Grandchildren, Allison (Aaron) Seale, Logan (Ashley) Kearns, Griffith (Leighnee) Kearns, Spencer (Amanda) Kearns, Laura Kearns, Emily (Joshua) Ratchford, Owen (Samantha Lynn) Kearns and Brian Kearns
Great-Grandchildren, Holden, Bristol, Emerson and Tucker Seale, Declan, Lorelei Kearns
Brother-in-law, Ronald Diegle
Nieces and nephews and extended family and friends along with the many Amish friends in the LaRue area.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday March 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Price Cemetery. Pastor Jacob Gilliam will officiate.
The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Emanuel Reformed Church, 4234 Green Camp Essex Rd. Marion, Ohio 43302

Norma and family - our prayers were answered and not Vaughn is no longer in pain. He was a wonderful 2nd cousin to me. He and Cheryl and running in the flowers now.

I will always remember your visits fondly, and listening to Vaughan and dad roar with laughter telling stories about each other.
