Joe H. Prettyman
Joe H. PrettymanFlagJoe H. Prettyman, 90 of Meeker, died Sunday morning January 18, 2026 at the Meadows of Marion.

Joe was born June 8, 1935 in Marion to the late Henry Leroy and Fern Cleo (Roszman) Prettyman.

Joe served our country in the United States Army. He was a lifelong dedicated farmer. He took great pride in this. It was the simple things in life that Joe appreciated, sitting at his farm, being outside or spending some quality time with family and friends telling a story or two. Joe had served his community over the years in many capacities. He was a member of the Meeker United Methodist Church.

On November 3, 1961 he married Janet M. (Tron) and she survives. Also surviving are their children, Kimberly Sue (Steve) Gerfen of Marion, Cy (Julie) Prettyman of New Bloomington and Jennifer Marie (Jeff) Skoczen of Valley View.
Grandchildren, Clay (Kylee) Gerfen, Nole (Katelyn) Gerfen, Lauren (Parker Brown) Prettyman, Tyler Prettyman and Stosh Skoczen.
Great grandchildren, Aleena Marie Gerfen, Stetson Pahl Gerfen, Kinsley Leanne Gerfen, Waylon Gerfen, and Jack Henry Brown.
Sister, Winona R. Fogle

Services for Joe will be celebrated privately. Pastor Douglas Thompson will officiate. Burial will take place in the Frame (Meeker) Cemetery. Military Honors will be given by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095.

The family suggests Memorial Gifts to the Marion Community Foundation, 504 S. State St. Marion, Ohio 43302, in lieu of flowers.

The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Janet & family, My heart was broken recently, by my own loss, but now it’s shattered, by your loss. Joe was a cousin, whom I will truly miss. I remember the many times, as a child,  spending days at Uncle Roy & Aunt Fern’s farm. While there,  Joe would always saddle up “ Cookie “ , for me to ride.  I have many fond memories of Joe.. I’m sure he & Ronnie are being their ornery selves, in heaven. May God wrap all of you, in His loving arms and bring you peace, at this difficult time.  🩷&🙏’s to all of you.

I first met Joe many years ago when I worked at the Village Kitchen in LaRue. He was always one of my favorite farmers made the days a little brighter when he would come in. Although I hadn't seen him in a few years he was always in my thoughts & he will truly be missed. I hope all their wonderful memories with him will help the family through this difficult time.

Janet and family please accept our condolences. Joe was always good to chat with. He was always willing to help out his community and neighbors. I have fond memories including a time when us Higgins boys had a Duroc sow trying to deliver some baby pigs , Joe came up the road to our old barn and after some pigs being pulled all was good thanks to Joes guidance and help. And also working some on his farm including mowing some fields for him. And his old Airedale dog that seemed to want to eat u up if you got close to him. He will be missed by his community and friends.
