James “Jim” Russell LuscaleetBeachJames “Jim” Russell Luscaleet, age 75 of Richwood, passed away Monday December 8, 2025 surrounded by his family and close friends at the Kobacker Hospice Hospital in Columbus. He was born on March 3, 1950 in Galion to the late Dale Richard and Jean Elaine (Harsh) Luscaleet. Jim lived a life defined by hard work, community, loyalty, and deep devotion to the people he cared for most.

Jim was an unwavering fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Traveling and sharing time with family and friends were among the greatest pleasures of his life. His warm smile, sharp wit, and generous heart made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.

For more than 30 years, Jim owned and operated the Richwood Cardinal, a business that became a cornerstone of the community under his leadership. He was also a dedicated, longtime member of VFW Post 870 in Richwood, where he served as a significant contributor and loyal supporter. Beyond his regular involvement, Jim poured countless hours into improving the VFW, remodeling the building, constructing a new bar, expanding membership, and helping to modernize the organization for future generations. His steady leadership, vision, and tireless work helped strengthen the VFW as a gathering place for Veterans and the Richwood community, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered for years to come.

Jim’s greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind his loving children: Vickie Maruniak (Scott) of Ostrander, Theresa Temple (Bill) of Richwood and Sondra Taylor (Scott) of Richwood.

He was a proud grandfather to Jordan Ellwood (Josh), Devon Taylor, Jacob Shuster, Ashley Bateman, Tiffany Davis (Tim), Connor Maruniak, Kierstan Hart (Drew), Mackenzie Justin (Kole), Casey Maruniak, Zane Temple, and Blaine Maruniak.

He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Landon Davis, Cohen Hart, and Mila Ellwood.

Jim is survived by former wife Denice Morley, his sister Sandy Finley (Pete) of Leesburg, Ohio and a sister-in-law, Anita Luscaleet of Galion. He was preceded in death by his brother Dick Luscaleet and his sister Linda Heminger (Butch).

Throughout his life, Jim touched countless lives with his kindness, dependability, and unwavering determination. Whether through his business, his work with the VFW, or his friendships, he made a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.

Funeral services celebrating Jim’s life will be held Friday December 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home in Richwood.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Union County Foundation, in the memo line please add, ”Luscaleet Family Memorial Scholarship” This Scholarship will be for North Union Students, with an emphasis on Business and Education. There will be envelopes available at the funeral home.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing.  I started working at Cardinal when I was just 14 years old. Jim was my very first boss. He was the person who showed me what true hard work, integrity, and dedication look like in the workplace. Under his guidance, I learned so much, including how to work the register long before scanners existed. Every item had to be hand-keyed, and thanks to that job and Jim, I mastered the number pad and developed skills that stayed with me throughout my life.  I can out type anyone on the number pad. Jim made a lasting impact on me, and I will always be grateful for the foundation he helped build. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

I wrote this for Jim to show my appreciation and gratitude for all that he’s done, organizing our Cruises as well as for the community and VFW He will be sadly missed by so many family, friends and Community Rest in absolute peace my friend… Jimbo. JIM. 10/29/23 So, there’s this guy in Richwood Yah, he’s a jolly good fellow He’s kind, hardworking and some would say, he’s even kind of mellow. A selfless guy who loves this place And wants what’s best for all He’ll jump through hoops and do his best Despite all protocol. He organized this trip and for so many It’s a dream Without your help, there’d have been struggle, like salmon swimming upstream. So look around at all you’ve done, at the happiness on our faces We’ve made it here upon this ship to sail away to places. Places some may have never seen without your generosity, So again I say.. for he’s a jolly good fellow… but, that’s my philosophy. So here we all are, the time has come to float upon the sea With ALL you can eat and ALL you can drink… OH MY DEAR, with this group? This we should really RETHINK! Cause someone is bound to pee over the rail- Oh MAN, the trouble that will bring Let’s all take a guess who that might be, On this we should really be betting! Let’s just have fun and eat and drink and enjoy with no regretting. So, let’s raise a glass to JIM for all the work that he’s put  in He brought us all together here, in my eyes… he’s the CAPTAIN! I consider Jim one of my dearest friends. What started out as a business relationship quickly turned into a wonderful friendship. I may have started out showing him the ropes but, in true ‘Jim Style’ he took the reins & ran with it.  He soon became my mentor. 😉 I loved working with him, hanging out, traveling & building a great friendship. I loved Jim very much.  His absence will forever be felt.
