Eva Monique Dunbar

Eva Monique Dunbar, 67 of Richwood, died Tuesday October 21, 2025 at the OSU Hospice in Columbus. She was born September 8, 1958 in Marion to the late George Robert and Margaret M. “Maggie” (Anson) Dunbar. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Edward Dunbar. Eva was employed at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville for over 20yrs. She had previously been a production spray painter for Rockwell in Columbus. Monique loved her cats and was a 1976 graduate of Elgin High School. Surviving are her siblings, Mary Dunbar of Richwood and Tony Dunbar of Prospect Graveside services will be held Wednesday October 29, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday October 28, 2025 from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. She would come in late and we became friends. Eventually, we would meet up at TeeJayes on Morse Road on Friday and Saturday nights, eat food, drink coffee, and hang out until the wee hours of the morning with the special duty officers and watch the shenanigans unfold. Mo was a tough nut to crack, but she was fiercely loyal to you once you were in the fold. She took a particular liking to our cat, Pinky who we'd bring to visit occasionally. Mo, I'm sorry we lost touch over the years. It's probably been close to 20. And I'm sorry to read of your passing. Rest in Peace! This did hit me very hard. Dunbar (as we call each other by our last names primarily) took me under her wing 7 years ago when I was a new officer and I wouldn’t have much of the knowledge and insight I have now without her. She even taught this city girl what microwavable pork rinds were and gave me some to try. I even stopped at Rural King (with the help of my GPS) and picked her up some in return. She definitely came across as having a hard exterior to some, but inside her laid a heart of pure gold that those of us fortunate enough to have been “adopted” as her work kiddos were blessed to experience. I will miss Eva so much but I am glad she is no longer suffering in silence, because she would never admit it to anyone, but is now truly at peace. I will always love you Eva Dunbar, as you were one of the few that saw beyond my own hard exterior and made me a better officer and human. You will forever be missed but always in my heart! I knew her from ORW and always appreciated her "old school" style of corrections and learned from her how to be firm but respectful. Dunbar always checked on me and had my back.
