Mary Ann SnyderRed Rose2Mary Ann Snyder (aka Aunt Mary, as she was affectionately known) 74 of LaRue, died unexpectedly Tuesday August 5, 2025 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born June 30, 1951 in Kenton to the late Richard Marion and Bertha Nellie (Bell) Snyder. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Barbara May Snyder, William S. Snyder and James Richard Snyder.

Mary grew up on a farm just outside of LaRue (Vinegar Hill). She was a farm girl at heart. She had many fond memories of playing with close neighbors the Armstrongs and the Alberts and riding her horse “King” with her friend Jackie.
She graduated in 1969 from Elgin High School. She then attended Marion Business College. Her working career consisted of being a forklift operator for the former Essex/ UTC plant in Kenton, then U.S.Y. in Marion.
Later in life she helped others, (Cecil Terry and Gene & Skeet McMahan) in the community as a caregiver.

Mary bought her house in LaRue in 1986. She enjoyed many family get togethers there. One of her favorite times of the year was Halloween. Mary looked forward to this months in advance. She was a people person, she enjoyed sitting outside and talking to her neighbors who would stop for a chat. She was very close to all of them; she considered them part of her family.

Mary loved to travel and go camping with her mother. She enjoyed gardening and raising Zinnias and sunflowers for the birds.

Her passion in life was her faith in Jesus. She adored her church family. She was a lifelong member of the LaRue United Methodist Church.

Mary’s pride and joy was her get togethers with her nieces and nephews (they were more like her children). She was the heart of the family and loved to feed everyone and have a cup of coffee with them!

Maybe think of Mary when you have your next cup of coffee.

Surviving is her family, David Todd (Misty) Snyder of LaRue, Alene May Shoffner of Mt. Victory, Jenny Neal of Findlay and Sherry (Gene) Schellin of Missouri
Great nieces and nephews, Chelsea (Dalton) Hiltibran of Bellefontaine, Mercedes (Ethan) Garner of Marion, James (Erica) Snyder of LaRue, Justin (Maleena) Snyder of Woodstock, Jacob (Brooke) Snyder of LaRue, Jonathan Snyder of LaRue, Angela (Colin) Boyd of Marion, Adam (Dawn) Shoffner of Quincy, Rick Shoffner, Vanessa Shoffner of Mt. Victory
Great, Great nieces, and nephew Harrison, Layla, Macie, Madison, Jack, Justin Jr., Raven, Taylor, Ashton, Brayden, Skylar, Ava, Quentin

Funeral services will be held Monday August 11, 2025 at 5:00 pm at the LaRue United Methodist Church. Pastor Douglas Thompson will officiate. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 3:00 pm at the church. Burial in the LaRue Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to the LaRue United Methodist Church at PO Box 327 LaRue, Ohio 43332

I am so very saddened today, learning of Mary’s passing. Tears are flowing as I try to honor her with this memory. She was two years behind me in school. We became reacquainted when she began caring for my mom and dad—mostly mom. Mary was perhaps the only person who could successfully deal with mom who could be, shall we say, “difficult.”  Mary was firm but patient, understanding, and loving with mom. She loved my parents and they loved her. I loved her. She was just that kind of person. There are angels here on earth and Mary was one of them. We will miss her terribly. But I am comforted knowing that she is with our Father in heaven. Love you Mary!

We are very saddened for the Snyder families loss of such a beautiful soul. Our son Cody was accepted and loved by Mary. We are thankful for her making him feel included, like he was part  of their family. I am speaking on his behalf because he is in the Navy and stationed overseas. She will be greatly missed.

Prayers for the difficult days ahead . We are saddled by her passing. Bob and I stopped recently and was telling her how appreciative of her kind words and encouragement for Tyler and Bob doing such a good job working for the village. She attended as many town council meetings as possible and was always positive on what was going on in the community. Mary was a friend to everyone she met . Our town lost a wonderful friend. Rest in peace.

My heart hurt when I heard of Mary’s passing. Mary was the kindest soul I’ve ever met and the absolute best neighbor ever. It’s not the same being at my kitchen sink, looking out the window. Mary should be sitting in her chair outside. Many prayers to all of her family.  What a wonderful person that will be missed dearly by all.
