Helen Louise (Jones) Cox-HoodletYellowRoseHelen Louise (Jones) Cox-Hoodlet, 88, of Richwood, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Memorial Hospital of Union County.

She was born on October 23, 1936, in Southern Indiana, she was one of three daughters born to Wayne and Goldie (Byrd) Jones. Helen lived a full country life outside Richwood, marked by her independence, faith, and love for her family.

At 15, Helen eloped to marry Bert Cox in 1951, raising a large family together. Their home was filled with love and laughter, and Helen remained a steady presence for her loved ones. After Bert’s passing, she found love again in her later years, marrying Leonard Hoodlet. Helen worked at MedCenter Hospital in Marion, retiring in 1998 after years of dedicated service.

Helen loved traveling, often riding her own motorcycle with Bert. She shared stories of her adventures and family history. A devout Christian for the past 40 years, her faith guided her through life’s hardships and inspired those around her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Goldie Jones; her sisters, Anna (Jones) Gwinner and Ruth (Jones) Williams; her husbands, Bert Cox and Leonard Hoodlet; her children, Linda Cox, Lana Cox, and Darryl Cox; her son-in-law, Tony Yates; and her grandchildren, David Yates and Sara Yates. She is survived by her children, Gary (Emma Statts) Cox, Bill (Becky Cox) Cress, and Rena (Cox) Yates; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Helen Louise (Jones) Cox-Hoodlet’s spirit, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 19, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Her grandson, Heath Cox will offciate. Burial will follow in the Shoup (Thompson Township) Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home to help the family with unexpected expenses.

We are so sorry for your loss.  We enjoyed all the times we spent at church. We also enjoyed the times she came in for coffee. Our whole family enjoyed her presence. She will truly be missed.
