Iva Ruth Goedicke |
 Iva Ruth Goedicke, 88, of Richwood, formerly of LaRue, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Walnut Crossing Assisted Living in Marysville.
She was born in Kenton on September 17, 1936 to the late Charles M. and Nita G. (Coates) Carpenter. She was one of eight children. She grew up on the family farm on Mink Street Road, near Magnetic Springs, and was a member of the Magnetic Springs United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Leesburg-Magnetic Springs High School in 1954.
Ruth was a former member of the LaRue United Methodist Church and the Richwood Garden Club. She worked at Kable-Fulfillment in Marion for nearly 30 years when she retired. She loved her family, living the farm life, growing crops, gardening, raising cattle, cats and dogs.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Donald, Robert, James and William Carpenter and sisters Mary Lou Hoover and Dorothy Garwood; her son Gregory Alan Barker; and husbands Bill Barker and Herb Goedicke.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherryl L. (Barker) (Chuck) Sheets, of Richwood, daughter-in-law, Brenda Retterer, of Dover; grandchildren, Jackie Ward and daughter Kamille, of Marysville, Nicholas (Ashleigh) Sheets, and children Christian, Macie and Ryleigh, of Plain City, Jennifer (Casey) Purdum and sons Cody and Connor, of Plumwood, and Sarah Barker, of Dover, numerous nieces and nephews and a sister, Carol (William) Hosterman of Grove City.
The family appreciates the kindness and services of the staff at Walnut Crossing and Suncrest Hospice.
A Service Celebrating her Life will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 12 noon at the Magnetic Springs United Methodist Church, 113 Olive St. Magnetic Springs, Ohio 43036. Pastor John Carpenter and Karl Haught will officiate. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am at the church. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Union County Humane Society, 46540 County Home Rd. Marysville, Ohio 43040 and/or the Magnetic Pharisburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 83 Magnetic Springs, Ohio 43036
The Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood assisted the family with arrangements

My condolences to Ruth's family. We were classmates at Leesburg-Magnetic High School 1954.
We both grew up on each side of Bokes creek in Delaware County.

Cheryl and family, Ruth was one of a kind. I enjoyed her enthusiasm for life particularly gardening and cats.i have missed her for a long time. There will be celebration in heaven being back with her parents and siblings.

Ruth was a neighbor and member of LaRue UMC where we did a lot of fundraisers together. She always liked being in the kitchen during VBS. you have our prayers and sympathies.
