Catherine “Cathy” Marie (Weinmann) Hill, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong advocate for children and community, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at her home in Prospect, Ohio. She was 82.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 30, 1943, Cathy was the daughter of the late Ronald and Julie Weinmann. She was also predeceased by her brother, Ronald Weinmann.
Cathy dedicated her life to service and compassion for others. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia, in 1965, where she met and later married Robert “Bob” Hill of Clarksburg, West Virginia. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August. In 1974, she received her Master of Arts in Teaching from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
Her professional journey reflected her passion for children and education. Cathy served as Director of Baptist Children’s Ministry and Friendship House Preschool in Detroit, Michigan. From 1981 to 1987, she worked tirelessly as the Executive Director of the Big Bend 4-C Council in Tallahassee, Florida, where she was a powerful advocate for children's rights and early childhood education. After relocating to Ohio in 1987, Cathy continued her mission of public service with the Marion County Department of Human Services and later the Ohio Board of Regents, where she worked until her retirement in 2009.
Throughout her life, Cathy was deeply involved in her community. She was a proud member of the Marion County Habitat for Humanity and later served in leadership roles with the Prospect Lions Club. She has served with the TWIG which supports Marion General Hospital Organization. A dedicated and enthusiastic gardener, Cathy found joy in her home garden, where she could often be found planting, watering, and mowing with heartfelt care and intensity.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Robert Hill; her children, Deborah (John) Norman of Orlando, Florida, David Hill of Palm Coast, Florida, and Darin Hill of Johnstown; and five grandchildren: Brandon, Matthew, Sean, Bree, and Justin.
Cathy’s legacy of love, service, and strength will live on in all who were fortunate to know her.
