Jerry Alan Reynolds
Jerry Alan ReynoldsTractor Farmall 506Jerry Alan Reynolds, 76, of the Richwood/Green Camp area, passed away peacefully at home with a cat on his lap Friday afternoon, January 10, 2025.  He was born in Marion on Friday, June 25, 1948, to the late Gerald Dale and Ruth Olive (Clutter) Reynolds.

Jerry graduated from North Union High School in 1966.  He dropped out of college to enlist in the US Army, serving his country as a dog handler in the Vietnam War. He and the dogs walked point, sniffing out landmines to clear the way for his fellow soldiers.

He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1993 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. Jerry was a third-generation farmer and raised sheep, pigs, and goats, often keeping many as pets, like his beloved sheep Helen. Jerry kept chickens for many years but disliked eggs, giving them away to friends and neighbors.  He spent much of his time helping things grow, from bottle-fed lambs to unique house plants, to his beloved grandchildren.

Jerry was a substitute teacher at Elgin High School.  He tutored local students and found the most reward helping students with special needs.  He spent countless hours volunteering at track practice and the Elgin Relays, often running the long jump pit.

Jerry took the path less traveled in life.  He enjoyed attending NASCAR races, sending his daughters on wild goose chases, and in later years making hooked rugs and completing paint-by-numbers.  He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed American Indian and World War II history.

He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who loved to play catch in the evenings.

He is survived by two daughters, Kara M. Reynolds (Chris Riddle) of Bowling Green and Kelly J. (Emmett) Phelan of Prospect; two grandchildren, Taylor A. and Madison M. Phelan; a brother, Timothy D. Reynolds of Aztec, New Mexico; and a nephew, Trenton D. (Kimberly) Reynolds and his children Tegan D. and Kaleb M. of Bremerton, Washington

Funeral Services will be held Thursday January 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Burial will follow in the Green Camp Cemetery, where there will be Military Honors given by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.

In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Wyandot County Humane Society, 9640 Co. Hwy. 330, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Reynolds was a favorite face to see at school, we always knew it was going to be a good day if we walked into a room & saw him there. The world was a better place with him in it, & we are lucky to have gotten to spend a bit of our time in it with him.

Coach Reynolds will be missed greatly by any one who knew him through track at Elgin.  He and I spent several years, hours , and  days at the long jump pit and hurdles during track season time.  He shared a lot of his knowledge about track to those who were willing to listen and learn.  He was a great official for track as well. He spoke often about his daughters while we were running the long jump pit.  He was one of my daughters favorites.  He was a one of a kind.  Keeping all of his family in our thoughts at this time.  Sincerely Coach Brandt

Jan and I were so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. I’m so glad that Kara was able to get a hold of us to let us know. It has been too many years since we had contact with Jerry! So many good memories of going to Jerry and Tim’s house when we were young and playing, and chasing around in the yard as cousins will do. Rest in peace Jerry!

Kelly and Kara, I’m saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. It was always a good class when Mr. Reynolds was the sub as he brought ease and humor to a bunch of rowdy teens. I also always enjoyed having him around during track season as an unofficial coach whose advice and encouragement I’d listen to more than others.  He was always there to cheer on his girls whom he obviously loved and adored. Condolences to your family on your loss.
