Ralph S. Varney
Ralph S. VarneyMasonry Past MasterRalph S. Varney passed away on Tuesday, December 3, at the age of 87, while at home in Prospect. He was born on February 11, 1937, in Greenup, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Letha (Preston) Varney; siblings: Rudolph Varney, Homer Varney, Betty Stone, Estella Chancellor, Carol Mahon, Peggy Emmaline Varney, Fannie Marie Varney, and an unnamed baby boy.

He valued and loved his family dearly and is survived by his wife Peggy, daughters: Valarie (David) Stultz, Delaware; Michelle Paradise, Prospect; and Lisa Varney, Prospect; grandchildren: Nathaniel (Kaleigh) Stultz, Jason (Elena) Wiggins, Rachel (R. J.) Hillebrand, Melissa (Derek) Glynn, and Sydney Daugherty; great-grandchildren: Lilianna, Mathias, and Jameson Stultz, Jocelyn Hillebrand, and Ethan Glynn; brother: Jimmy (Polly) Varney; and extended family: Fred (Carol) Browning, Rob (Emma) Mahon, Frances White, and Vorice Varney as well as a number of nephews and nieces.

After graduating from Lenore High School, Ralph was stationed for two years in Germany with the U.S. Army. He worked the assembly line at Westinghouse Electric Corp., as a welder at Marion Power Shovel, as a dockworker at Amoco Corp., as a boiler operator at Mariana Asphalt, and as co-owner of VEBCO Golf Cart Sales and Service, before he retired.

He was a member and Past Master of the DeSoto Lodge No. 105 F. & A.M. in Riverview, Florida, where he also enjoyed instructing new members. He loved golfing, spending many hours on golf courses in Florida with his friends, and scored a hole-in-one on a golf course in West Virginia with his brother, Homer.

In retirement, and throughout his adult life, Ralph had a workshop where he enjoyed tinkering on projects and small motors, all while listening to classic country and fifties music. Being a veteran himself, Ralph created wooden flags that he gifted to others as a way to show his patriotism and deep appreciation for those who served our country.

So sorry for your loss.  The one good thing is that you know where he is!  I'm sure he's having a wonderful time with Jesus and family who have gone before.  He always had a smile on his face and loved his family.  We had great times at their place in Riverview,FL years ago.  He loved riding his grandchildren around on his golf cart.  I know you'll all miss him.  We're praying for comfort for the family.  We love you guys!

Love you all. Uncle Ralph was one of a kind and we all miss him and you all so much. Sorry we weren’t able to make it to Ohio this weekend. He was literally the best Uncle we could have ever asked for. Please give Aunt Peggy a huge hug from me. We will see you again one day beyond those pearly gates Uncle Ralph! Until then we will continue to share your stories and love.
