Gloria Sylvia Newcombe
Gloria Sylvia NewcombeGloria Sylvia Newcombe, 68 of Prospect, went to meet Jesus early afternoon on Monday, October 28, 2024.

She was born on September 22, 1956 in Biggar, Saskatchewan, Canada to Arthur and Alma Redlich. Her mother immigrated from Germany to Canada and united in marriage to Arthur who was also German-Canadian. Gloria was raised in a bilingual household carrying on her German heritage.

She grew up on a beautiful farm in Biggar, Saskatchewan where her parents demonstrated hard work and discipline which always remained a part of her. She loved the prairies and small town life she lived in Canada.

Gloria loved the Lord and remained a faithful servant displaying a gentle spirit. She grew up attending an Evangelical Lutheran Church. She gave her life to Christ as a child at Ranger Lake Bible Camp in Saskatchewan. Gloria enjoyed serving as a camp counselor, singing in choir, and attended Bible college.

Ralph and Gloria corresponded through Christian Singles in 1978 and were married in 1980. Gloria joined Ralph in Columbia, South Carolina where they lived for 15 years and started their family together. Their first 4 children were born and raised there until moving to Ohio in 1995 where their youngest child was born.

Gloria loved and cared for her family and greatly exemplified the wise woman described in Proverbs 31. She was a professional homemaker and enjoyed baking, cooking, homeschooling her children and tending to the household. She provided for her family through budgeting, planning meals, and using her resources wisely. She faithfully ministered in prayer daily for her family, friends, and various ministry opportunities.

Gloria supported and was joined in ministry with her husband of 44 years. They served in Child Evangelism Fellowship and Awana for many years. She loved and served faithfully in Awana as a leader and director as each of her children progressed through the program.

Gloria’s life revolved around ministry to her family as well as to those outside her home, especially in her younger years. Her family has sweet memories of Gloria singing and listening to music all throughout the house while she would bake and do other chores. Gloria demonstrated interest in others’ interests, and loved her son and daughter in-law greatly. The family enjoyed fellowship together often involving family devotions, prayer time, conversing about their daily activities, and watching their favorite shows. These memories will always be held dearly in the minds of Gloria’s family members.

Surviving is her husband, Ralph E. Newcombe, they were married September 12, 1980 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Also surviving are their children, Ian (Anna) Newcombe pf Lynchburg, Va., Hans Newcombe (deceased), Joel Newcombe of Prospect, Christabelle Newcombe of Prospect and Annabelle (Scott) Schade of Warsaw, Indiana
Grandson, Bryan Judah Newcombe
Siblings, Eileen (Ed) Scott, Liz (Ron) Hanna, Willy (Geri) Redlich and Leonard Redlich (deceased)

Knowing Gloria these past many years I can’t think of her without hearing her speak about her children. All our children grew up together and her devotion to her family was obvious. We smiled through the little kid years together and have commiserated when each one found their path as adults—happy for them but wishing they never had to leave. Praise God for this gentle friend; keeping  all of you in prayer.

I met Gloria about 3 yrs ago through Christabelle. Gloria was a bright glowing light of a child of God.  She had a soft voice, a loving nature about herself,  and was a welcoming person when you entered her presence.   When I visited at her house a few times and you could feel the love her and Ralph had for God. It shone through their marriage and it was air throughout their home.  Gloria was a beautiful soul and the glory of God shone through her and around her.  A great example of a godly woman who will most dearly be missed here on earth.  I'm ever so overjoyed for her to be in the presence of our great and wonderful Lord, praising Him all day and being in a perfect place. ❤️ Till we meet again my sister, Beth Carter

I was saddened to hear of Gloria's passing. Then after reading the obituary, the sadness turned to praise and thanks to our Lord. To know that she knew and served Jesus is such a comfort at a time like this. I am sorry for your loss, and sympathize in your grief. Giving you my love and hugs. What a day that will be, when my Jesus I will see, when I look in to His face, the one who saved me by His grace...that song comes to my mind. May you be comforted and keep the hope that is in the faith Gloria lived by. We just had a VBS team here from Child Evangelism Fellowship out of sask/alberta, I wonder if it connected in some way? Take care and God bless and comfort you
