Juanita J. “Hazel” Fields
Juanita J. “Hazel” FieldsEasternStarJuanita J. “Hazel” Fields, 93 of Marion, formerly of LaRue, passed away Monday March 25, 2024 at the Marion General Hospital.

She was born February 20, 1931 in Morrow County during the Depression to the late Harry and Austa Marie (Weist) Miller.

Juanita graduated from LaRue High School in 1949. She began her career as a waitress at the LaRue Restaurant for Marsha Miller and later Bill Hicks. She then went to work as a teller and bookkeeper for the Marion County Bank (Bank One -Chase). She worked there for 18 years, retiring in 1985.

She married the late Frank V. Fields in 1980 and moved to Marion.
Surviving are her children, Rita (Lloyd) Sayre, Phillip (Charlotte) Albert, Susan (James) Alig and Thomas (Joy) Albert all of Marion and David (Pam) Albert of LaRue
14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren
Sister, Mary Ellen (Richard) Dune of Marion and brother-in-law, Raymond Rhodes of LaRue
Many nieces and nephews and extended family

She was preceded in death by daughters, Martha Albert and Carla Strahm, siblings, Susann (Robert) Barkley, Barbara Rhodes, Margie Miller, William (Lily) Miller, John (Pat) (Virgie) Miller and Harry Frank (Marilyn) Miller

In 1998 she received the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award from Medical Mutual of Ohio. She also served on the LaRue Town council, helped with the Boy Scouts and PTA. She taught Bible School with Norma Redd at LaRue UM Church. She later in life received a credit in Horticulture from Tri-Rivers.
Juanita was a 50yr plus member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as Worthy Matron of the Mary Lennox #98 in LaRue. She had held two Star Points, District President, Grand Page to Warder, Deputy Grand Matron and Grand Rep. to Ohio and Virginia. She was a member and secretary of Marion County Federation Club. She also had helped cook meals at the Masonic Lodge.

Juanita was lovingly given the nickname “Hazel” by her teenaged daughter Carla. That name carries on to this day. It came from the sitcom “Hurray for Hazel”. She had an open house policy as everyone was welcome in her home. She believed it took a whole village to raise a child.
She will be dearly missed by many.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hayes and staff for her wonderful care.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of Juanita. During our days in LaRue we spent many hours cooking cleaning and discussing before OES meetings and worked on many Masonic dinners together.  She was always upbeat and positive. She was so proud of her family that she leaves as her legacy to the world.

Susan, Rita, Tom, David, and Phil, I'm very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Although I only knew her for a few months, she was such a blessing as Mom's roommate for a time in the nursing home. Juanita was such a kind and caring person. She, and all of you, made that time more bearable for Mom and our family. Nan, Connie, and I just loved Juanita! It was obvious that you loved your mom, too, as all of you were devoted to her. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time. Our moms in heaven are likely sharing a hug, a laugh, and some peach cobbler with a big scoop of ice cream! Love and hugs to you.

What a wonderful Mother you had! She was one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known! She was always eager to help, advise and give encouragement during my time in Eastern Stars with her. I loved her laugh and positive outlook. She once told me she was Chatman of the Ways and Means committee for about 7 years for the Marion Women’s Club. She was an early warrior for the Club and contributed to our success today. I’m so sorry I  cannot attend her funeral…but know I’m praying for all her family during this difficult time.
