Victor D. Markham
Victor D. MarkhamGolf GreenVictor D. Markham, 94 of Richwood, died unexpectedly Monday December 12, 2023 at his home.

He was born May 1, 1929 in Waverly to the late John and Bessie (Beatty) Markham. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margene (Bayhan) Markham, they were married January 10, 1951 and she died December 21, 2013. Also preceding him in death were siblings, John Jr., Glen, Forest, Robert, William, James and Martha Cline.

Vic served our country in the United States Army. He drove for Eastern Greyhound Lines for 30 yrs. He was a member of the Richwood First Methodist Church. He held memberships in the Richwood American Legion Baccarat Post #40, VFW Post #870 and Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F & AM. He had also worked for the Union County Auditor Weights and Measures Dept. and was the Claibourne Township Zoning Inspector for years.
Vic loved to golf, he was an original member of the Richwood Golf League and the old “Sweet Sixteen” golf group. He was a talented gardener and always took great pride in his yard and home. He loved his time spent playing cards at the Red Barn in Richwood with his friends. Vic was a huge supporter of North Union Athletics; he enjoyed going to all the games.
Vic will be remembered as a true old school gentleman who could really tell a story. His ability to tell jokes was legendary.

Surviving are his sons, Gene (Jeri) Markham of Tucson, Arizona, Marty (Teresa) Markham of Marysville and David (Lisa McDaniel) Markham of Marion
grandchildren, Brent (Elizabeth), Kate, Jack (Hannah), Dylan
great grandchildren, Asher, Clara, Warren and Hudson
brother, Joe Markham of Cleveland, TN

Funeral services will be held Monday December 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery. There will be Military Honors given by the Richwood Area Veterans. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home in Richwood. There will be Masonic services at 4:00 pm on Sunday.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Richwood First Methodist Church, 18 S. Fulton Street Richwood, Ohio 43344 and the North Union Athletic Boosters , 401 North Franklin St. Richwood, Ohio 43344

Vic was a great friend and golfing buddy, and I will miss him.  We enjoyed telling jokes back and forth, and when I couldn't remember one he wanted to hear, he told me to start writing them down.  I also played golf with Vic at Woodland when he shot his age.  Condolences to the entire family. Vic was one of the most admired men we knew!   He was a proud Veteran who was ALWAYS there when called upon!   Funerals, Wreaths Across America, Football game and graduation Honor Guard...anything that Veterans were called upon to do - and that was all the time!  We will truly miss our dear friend and fellow Veteran.  Rest in Peace, Vic.

My deepest condolences I don’t care how old your Dad is it still breaks your heart! Uncle Vic was one of a kind but so were all the Markham Brothers and of course our Grandpa with all of his shenanigans and I always considered uncle Kenneth one of the ornery Brothers who was married to my aunt Martha, the only girl among all those boys  poor Aunt Martha! Marty, Brent & family - I'm so sorry for your loss. I always loved seeing Vic at school events. He was very supportive of our schools, graduation, everything! Age did not slow him down much. I hope you find comfort in knowing that he and Margene are back together again. They were a great couple.

Gene,Marty and David I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I will always remember when I was a 21 Dealer in Lake Tahoe, Nevada and I looked up and there he was with his arms folded and a big smile. I couldn't wave so I just smiled back. I'm sure he had brought a group in to gamble. I'm sure there's a euchre game going on now with his brothers.
