Dawn Michelle “Missy” Clevinger |
After a long illness, Dawn Michelle “Missy” Clevinger, 54, of Prospect, passed away peacefully Sunday April 23, 2023, at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Columbus.
Missy was born February 12, 1969 in Marion, to the late Ronald and Emma Sue (Gross) Clevinger.
She was a 1987 graduate of Elgin High School, where she enjoyed playing several sports including volleyball, basketball, and softball. After high school she finished three years of study at The Ohio Institute of Photography, building upon her ability to see the beauty in each situation and capture it on film for future reflection. Her talented eye was evident in her photographs.
Professionally, Missy focused her skills helping people for many years in the insurance industry.
Animals of all shapes, sizes and breeds were the love of Missy’s life. Her gentle nature conveyed a sense of understanding and trust for the animals, allowing her to connect with them almost immediately. She shared her home with many furry family members and was a strong advocate supporting animal rights. Many neighbors and friends sought her advice and wisdom in caring for their animal friends.
Missy is survived by her mother, Emma Sue Clevinger of Marion; her sister Rhonda (Randy) Crowe of Columbus; her niece Riley Crowe of Tavernier, Florida; and several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Missy loved life and celebrated all the moments, big and small, each day of her life. She followed her own path, played by her own rules, and loved in her own beautiful way. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday May 5, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Chaplain Steven Anderson will officiate. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 5:00 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.
Help us honor her as we gather to remember the moments we each shared with her. All are encouraged to wear vibrant colors in celebration of Missy’s life.

To a special family I've known over 40 years. Sending love, support and prayers.
Missy will be missed by all who knew her. I agree, she lived life on her own terms. She liked animals, music and really scary movies.
I called her the Elly May Clampett of Prospect. She loved her many cats as well as feeding outside varmints.
She was strong and brave fighting her illnesses. Now it's time she is out of pain and in Heaven with her Dad and pet Sadie.
We will be there with bright colors to celebrate her life.

Rhonda and family,
I was so very saddened to hear of Missy’s health struggles and death. Missy was a good friend and family to me a very long time ago, when we were young and starting out in life. Her strength to persevere and live life on her terms was inspiring. I am sorry we were unable to reconnect in recent years. I do know her family meant everything to her. Sending many prayers of peace, grateful she has found peace from her pain,
Kelly (Bowman) and Mike Muhl

I am so saddened to learn of Missy’s passing. She was such a beautiful person. She certainly had her share of illnesses and complications but always seemed to have a positive attitude. I will always remember her love for animals and how she loved Sadie and her 2 cats and all the rescues that wintered in the garage. May she be at peace.
