Gary L. Johnston
Gary L. JohnstonAirForceGary L. Johnston, 80 of Prospect, died Tuesday March 21, 2023 at the Marion General Hospital.

He was born January 28, 1943 in Marion to the late Harry R. and Lamont (Cameron) Johnston. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen A. Mathieson, they were married January 6, 1967 in Huntingtonshire, England and she died July 14, 2020. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Irvin and Gaylord Johnston.

Gary served our country in the United States Air Force, he retired after 20 years in 1985 as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Prospect, where he had volunteered at the food pantry.
Gary was truck driver/courier, he had worked for different companies over the years.
In his younger days he enjoyed camping. Gary and Helen had lived in California, South Dakota, England, Wyoming, Arizona, when Helen became a U. S. Citizen ,they finally settled in Prospect.
He was a member of the Prospect American Legion Post #368.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa and Patty and two granddaughters, Desiree and Krystal,
His nephew and niece, who helped take care of Gary, Mark and Brenda Jordan and their kids.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 1, 2023 at 11 am at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prospect. Pastor Scott Schnapp will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, where there will be Military Honors by the Vietnam Veterans of America #1095.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 am at the church.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 200 East Water Street, Prospect, OH 43342 and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
