JoAnn Stillings
JoAnn StillingsTeacherJoAnn Stillings, 93, of Richwood, died peacefully Saturday, December 17, 2022, after a brief illness, at the Memorial Hospital in Marysville, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born August 6, 1929, in Claibourne Township, to the late Don and Georgia Cramer. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Jane Cramer Ridge and George Clifford Cramer.

JoAnn graduated from Richwood High School in 1947 and The Ohio State University in 1970. JoAnn dedicated her career to education. She taught in the North Union School District for over 30 years, leading 4-H clubs and Sunday school classes while she raised her family and cared for her aging parents.  Her special interests were working with students experiencing learning challenges and spending her summers teaching reading classes.

After retiring from teaching, JoAnn’s passion for community caring continued, as she became a member of the Richwood Civic Center Board of Directors, ultimately serving as President.  For more than 25 years, JoAnn served as the Richwood area coordinator for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile.

JoAnn administered the Commodity Food Box program for seniors in the North Union area.  In the early 2000’s, her church started a Free Shop, set up to “recycle” used clothing and household items, and provide school supplies.  Through this work, she identified the need for a personal needs pantry in the North Union community.  JoAnn and many volunteers organized the North Union Personal Needs Pantry which has been operating for more than 15 years, serving more than 70 families each month.  Over the past year, JoAnn transitioned the administration of the Commodity Food Box program and the Personal Needs Pantry to the Richwood Civic Center.

JoAnn was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years.    She also led the handbell choir for many years.

JoAnn married Duane Stillings on September 23, 1951. Duane preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her four children, Trudy (Alan) Anders of Fletcher, North Carolina; Lisa of Dublin, Kay (Pat) French of Delaware, and Ron (Debbie) Stillings of Beavercreek; and three grandchildren, Adam French, Columbus; Brian French, Los Angeles, California, and Emily Stillings, New York City.

Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood is assisting the family in a private celebration of life service. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate and burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery.

My prayers are with the family. I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Stillings twice. First time was in 3rd and then again in 6th. She was my favorite teacher. I have often thought about her over the many years.  All my love to her and her family. Penny
