Harley Kramp
FlagHarley Kramp “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. Harley went home to be with the Lord on September 6th surrounded by his family. Harley, the son of Sheldon and Flora Kramp, was born September 12, 1924, on his family farm in LaRue, Ohio. He graduated from LaRue High School and received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in education from Ohio State University.

Harley served in World War II as a member of the Lighter-Than-Air Squadron stationed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following his service he worked as a school administrator in the Berea, Ohio Public School District for 34 years, primarily as a principal of elementary schools. He married Esther Fae Wilson in 1948 and they went on to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Two years after Esther’s death, Harley married Lorrain Shelton in 2000. They enjoyed 21 years together in Dallas before Lorrain’s passing in May 2022.

For 97 years, Harley possessed an uncommon resilience and a will to live life to the fullest. He was incredibly active throughout his life despite having two knees, two hips, and two shoulders replaced, as well as a pacemaker inserted after a cardiac arrest. Whether hunting, fishing, waterskiing, or taking care of Lorrain’s ranch, he thrived on time spent outdoors enjoying God’s creation. As an avid Ohio sports fan, he never missed watching a Buckeyes football game.

Most of all, Harley loved spending time with his family and was a devoted participant in every aspect of their lives. He always demonstrated a servant heart, whether he was investing in the students and teachers at his schools, hosting family and friends at extraordinary Thanksgiving events, entertaining people at his lake house or providing support to loved ones. As a member of Park Cities Baptist Church, he passionately pursued and served his Lord by singing in the choir, counting money, and attending Bible study.

Harley is survived by his son Jeff and wife Marcy, son Doug and wife Cheryl and grandchildren Tanner, Katie, Peyton, Brian and David. He is also survived by stepsons Thomas Shelton and wife Debra, Robert Shelton and wife Diana, stepdaughters Vicki Shelton White and Melissa Shelton Bartlett and husband Charlie. Grandchildren Blake, Luke, Landon, Thomas, Rachael, Sarah, Jake, Mason, Brad, Ashley and Reed, and great grandchildren Samuel, Thomas and Scottie. A Memorial Service will be held at Park Cities Baptist, Ellis Chapel on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made in Harley’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
