Dorothy Louise Iler
Dorothy Louise IlerApple PieDorothy Louise Iler, formerly of Prospect, was born June 7, 1929, in Marion to Ida May (Hash) and Roy Franklin Shenefield. She went to be with The Lord on August 24, 2022, at the wonderful age of 93.

Dorothy Iler known by all as Dot or Dottie was known best to all for her love of her family and her husband (Dick Iler) of 62 years of marriage, they were married June 4, 1950 in Marion and he died February 4, 2012. Together they were known in the community of Prospect where they made their home after moving from Marion with their two sons.

Dorothy met Dick in Sunday School at Wesley Methodist Church in Marion. They joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where Dot was a volunteer at the library. Dot loved to read books and would read as many as two or three a week. They also were avid golfers and Dot was on the Ladies League at Kings Mill as well as a Friday Couples League. Dot was known for her pie making. The whole family enjoyed her delicious pies, and many others were blessed with them. Dot also belonged to the Crafter's Guild for many years. Dot and Dick traveled to England, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Bahamas, and many other places during their retirement years. They were also snowbirds in the Carolina’s. Dot loved to spend time with her grandchildren who have many memories of their times together.

Dot worked at City Hall in Marion as a billing clerk. Prior to this she sold Avon and Kevin and Kirk would travel with her making her deliveries. Dot graduated from the Harding High School in 1947.

Dorothy leaves two sons and their spouses, Kevin and Nancy Iler of San Ramon, Ca. and Kirk and Jenn Iler of Howard. Seven grandchildren, Clay and Cliff McGowen, Amy Iler, Morgan Iler, Brittany Iler, Zach Iler and Chloe Iler as well as seven great grandchildren, Molly, Piper, Paige, Colton, Presley, Zoe and Ford.  Dorothy’s husband Richard "Dick" passed in 2012. Dorothy was one of six children two sisters Helen and Norma Jean and three bothers Bob, Roy Kenneth, and Jim all who preceded her in death.

Dot now has joined Dick in Heaven and we look forward to seeing them both again.

Kevin & Kirk and families - Many happy memories with Dick and Dot.  They were my sponsors when I joined St Paul Lutheran Church in Prospect along with Bob and Mary Lou Buckley in about 1968.  Keep the good memories alive.

Kevin, Kirk and families,
I send my heartfelt sympathy to you on the loss of your mother. We were neighbors in our wonderful neighborhood as well as friends and church family. It is hard to lose your mother no matter how many years you have her in your life because no one loves you like your mother and I know you were blessed by her love. May you hold her memory forever in your hearts.

My memories of Aunt Dot are of a warm, friendly, kind, active, happy woman.  She always had a winning smile that welcomed conversation and interaction. I remember her joy at the birth of her sons and her pride in their successes.  She and Uncle Dick had a special bond and it could be seen in their connection to each other.  I’m glad she is part of my  memories.  I’m sorry for your loss Kevin and Kirk.  Celebrate her life.
