Mary Smith

Mary Smith, 60 of Marion, died unexpectedly Friday, August 12, 2022 at Marion General Hospital. She was born July 24, 1962 in Marion to the late Oscar and Evelyn (Abrams) Stapleton. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar E., Frank, Jim, and Robert Stapleton, as well as a niece. On January 19, 2003 she married Richard Smith, and he survives in Marion. She is also survived by two brothers, Thomas (Barb) Stapleon, Richwood; Roy (Betty) Stapleton, Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1981 graduate of Harding High School, she loved fishing and camping. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to country music, and going to car shows. Her dog, Harley was the light of her life. On Mary’s last birthday, she wanted hotdogs with all the trimmings for everyone and a 3-tiered cake, and that’s what she got. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at 5:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Glenn Montis officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial gifts may be made to the family to help with unexpected expenses.
