John “Jack” Porter
John “Jack” PorterFlagJohn “Jack” Porter, 73 of Dawsonville, Georgia, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 2, 1948 in Marion to the late Ervin and Donna (Ruhl) Porter. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Maurice Bosse.

On August 25, 1978 he married the former Evelyn Dix in Prospect and she survives in Dawsonville.

Jack was a member of Browns Bridge Church, Cumming, GA.

He worked as Service Manager for twenty years with Roush Honda in Westerville. Jack enjoyed gardening, carpentry work, watching birds in his backyard, loved to travel the States and abroad, fishing, golfing, and watching Ohio State Football. He never lost his first love, attending and raising livestock.

He loved spending time with family and friends. Most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren. To him each one was very special in their own person, and he loved them just as they are.

He was a member of the Elgin FFA and was proud to win the 1964 National FFA Speaking Contest. A 1966 graduate of Elgin High School, he was part of a very tight knit group with many dear friends. He served seven years in the United States Air Force.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Todd (Vina) Porter, Dallas TX; Kevin (Addie) Porter, and their children, Jordan and Hailey, Katy, TX; Chad (Melissa) Porter, and their children, Jacob, Mackenzie, and Tenley, Cumming GA; a sister, Janet (Bill)Howard, Marysville; in-laws; Carroll (Dix) Bosse, Columbus; Stephen (Terry) Dix, Chillicothe; 6 nieces and 12 great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their loving care of Jack during his short illness.

Per Jack’s wishes there will be a private family memorial at a later date.

Evelyn, it was an honor to have spent time with you and Jack. It is amazing what a wonderful group of people there are in motorcycle groups. We would not have met otherwise. Many prayers to you and your family.

Evlin, Doris and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Jacks sickness and passing. I remember his upbeat personality and how he kept everyone laughing. We had a great time while practicing in our 1966 ELGIN Rock band "The Barracudas" Jack, Greg Blank, and I played guitars, Paul Mcmann, and Ed Fox on the drums. I am sure we would have gone National if it hadn't been for that silly English band the Beatles.
