James Ottice Davis

James Ottice Davis, 88 of Richwood died Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1933 in Putnam County, West Virginia to the late Ottice Davis and Rosa (Rutan) Harmon.

He was retired from Armco Steel after working their 25 years. His true passion was farming, which he did all his life. He loved being with his family and he was an avid small game hunter when he was able.

On June 1, 1952 he married the former D. Margaret (Stover) in Red House, West Virginia, and she survives. Also surviving are his sons, James (Kathy) Davis, Richwood; Barry (Glory) Davis, Marysville; a daughter, Kathy (Tom) Schmelzer, Richwood; eleven grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) Davis, Kimberly (Jeff) Bowen, Tanya Davis, Emmy (Ryan) Beeson, Tami Chapek, Tim (Holleh) VanSant, Eric Schmelzer, Jennifer (Jonathan Butts) Schmelzer, Marc (Jess) Schmelzer, Abby Davis, Jesse Davis; 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Karen) Harmon, Winfield, West Virginia; and three sisters, Donna Eskew, Godfrey, Illinois; Patty Stone, Charleston, West Virginia; and Norma (Terry) Daugherty, Dunbar, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 12:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with his son, Jim officiating. Burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to Noon the day of the service at the funeral home in Richwood.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 1404 Goodale Blvd #200, Columbus, OH 43212.
