Anne E. Shuman
Anne E. ShumanRed Rose2Anne E. Shuman passed away (71 years) at home after her long battle with end stage renal disease due to diabetes.

Anne graduated from the University of Maryland in 1971 with a degree in Animal Science. She always loved animals and had many pets. She worked for Prince George’s County for 27 years in the social services department helping others in her town of Laurel. She loved her historic Laurel neighborhood and lived there for 35 years.

After her retirement in 2008, She enjoyed raising her dogs and cats, buying jewelry that reminded her of her mother, Ruth, and visiting with neighbors and friends who helped her during her trials of illness.

She is survived by her niece, Mary. Predeceased was her husband, Leonard Broadhurst and her brother, David Shuman. Anne requested a private ceremony by the graves of her parents in Ohio which will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to First United Methodist Church on 425 Main Street in Laurel would be appreciated. They helped her with meals and comfort over her last year of life.

I am reminded of Anne's mother, Ruth Smith Shuman, whom I remember as having one of the sweetest voices of anyone ever in Richwood High School. While she was older than I, I was really impressed by the district and state competitions she won at Dennison University and Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
I remember her as "having a voice like an angel."
She was accompanied by Joan Benton whom some of us will remember as later becoming a piano teacher in this area.
While I never knew Anne, I definitely remember her mother, and her grandparents, Lester and Clara Smith who were members of First United Methodist Church.
