Steven Allen Mills
Steven Allen MillsSteven Allen Mills died peacefully from complications of COVID-19 on October 14, 2021, at The Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, FL.  He was 70.

The son of Betty and the late Garold “Jerry” Edward Mills, Steve was born and raised in Springfield.  He graduated from Northeastern High School.

Steve attended The Ohio State University in Columbus where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and The Ohio Staters service organization.

In 1976, Steve joined the family business, Mills Chevrolet-Olds-Pontiac, Inc. in Richwood. There, he was able to work with his father and, for a period, his two younger brothers.  Daily, Steve arrived at the “agency” a few hours before sunrise to make coffee and do some work before a constant stream of friends came through the door to visit.  While he appreciated automobiles, his drive to keep strenuous hours was fueled by the anticipation of whom he would see each day, be they employees or customers.  He served as the company’s president until closing the operation in 2008. After a brief respite, he returned to work at Chesrown Chevrolet Buick GMC, Inc. in Delaware, from which he retired in the autumn of 2018.

Steve called Richwood home, raising two children, and making countless friends over nearly 30 years. He became a Freemason and Shriner. He was also a member of the Essex United Methodist Church and the Richwood First United Methodist Church.
He then lived in Delaware, for fifteen more years, continuing to make new friends and create fun wherever he went.

In 2019, Steve and his partner, Mindy, relocated to The Villages, FL. They married in 2020.  While living in Florida, he fully enjoyed retirement, often remarking to friends and family how fortunate he felt to live there.  He loved the sunshine, golfing, swimming, bowling, and listening to live music. The simplicity of life on a golf cart suited him well.

An avid golfer, Steve enjoyed sharing the love of the game with his family and friends. He spent many days watching, playing, or just talking about the game.  While a lifelong Republican, he welcomed open dialogue with those of all ideologies.

Steve was a son, brother, husband, and father to a fortunate few, but a friend to so many others. He is survived by his wife, Malinda “Mindy” (Yenser); daughter Kelly Mills (Matthew Elliott) of Columbus; son Christopher of Pinehurst, NC; mother Betty of Sarasota, FL; brothers Randy (Cynthia) of Dayton, and Rick (Jane) of Sarasota; stepsons Logan Dawson (Taylor) of Columbus and Drew Dawson of Plain City; step-granddaughter Hensley Dawson of Plain City; ex-wife Jacki (McClenathan) Mills of Delaware; stepmother Ruth Mills of London; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends whom he befriended during his 70 years on Earth. He was preceded in death by his father and stepson (Myles Dawson).

A Gathering of Family and Friends celebrating Steve's Life will take place Sunday May 22, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm at The Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Rd. Delaware, Ohio 43015

Memorial gifts may be made to The Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association (HOJGA, Attn: Steve Mills Memorial Fund, PO Box 821, Marion, OH, 43301-0821).

The family would appreciate Steve’s legacy being carried on by others and requests that friends greet everyone they meet before noon with a “good morning”; sing along to every song; and do something nice for someone else each day.

Thoughts and prayers to Steve’s family. Steve was a friend to both of us for years. Never put off tomorrow , what you can do today. Steve had invited us to his place in Florida, but we never made the time, a sad mistake. He will be missed by so many.

To the Mills Family I am so sorry for the passing of Steve and the empty place he has left in so many lives.  Steve was a gem someone that just made you smile.  We bought a truck off of him right before he retired I wanted dark blue he found me 4 the price difference in the blue and what he had on lot was insane, he said Jennifer I will get you the blue if that’s what you want but is it really worth the extra??  He was right I got the silver😂. My mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor Labor Day weekend  weekly I got a message from Steve checking on her and all of us, messages that brought me to tears.  The last message was Sept 25th, I didn’t know he was sick.  When I heard we lifted him in prayer just as he had been doing for mom. I have learned our prayers are answered in different ways then we sometimes want  and God has different plans.  Steve passed 5 days before  mom and I know they are both in a better place and healed but for those of us here it is hard to let go  and hard to go on.  Steve would have wanted  people to go play golf, smile and laugh  and enjoy the little things  in life.  Good people go to fast but Steve lived a full good. Happy go lucky  life for his time here on earth  and touched a lot of lives he was a blessing to be around. Hugs and prayers, Jennifer

Steve's family and extended families....
Sending our thoughts and prayers. Like many, we were in shock... We've know Steve since the 70s and bought several vehicles, went to parties, and he was as Steve Martin says: "One Wild and Crazy Guy" everyone wanted to be with.
He was blessed to get to retirement and enjoy the Good Life.
Hope to Celebrate his Life in 2022.
Hugs,
Dave/Deb Tevis Clayton

Many childhood memories with the Mills family.  My heart breaks for all of you.  Steve’s humor, wit, and effortless way of engaging people are a few of his treasures!  Loved visiting him with Dad at the dealership.  And I’ve always heard about the card club shenanigans and his impeccably times  wise cracks!  :)

Praying for you all through these next chapters without him here.  But it is my belief he isn’t far.  ❤️

Few people in your life can make you feel happy just by thinking of them. Steve was a rare gem. I have so many memories of Steve and every single one of them brings a smile to my face. I walked into the store many times, usually just to visit, sometimes to buy a vehicle. It didn't matter to Steve why you were there; he was always happy to see you. He was my friend, and I've missed him for several years, but now we all miss him more.

What a shock. Always full of energy and a never ending smile. We bought several vehicles off of him to the point he would even bring a new one he thought I would like to me at work and say here keep it a few days and traded every 3 years as another in town resident always bought my old one as low miles. He was very generous donating to worthy causes and the community. Our deepest sympathy ,thoughts and prayers to all the family.

My condolences...
I'm glad I was able to reconnect with Steve, on Facebook. After some 40+ years!
We had a few conversations. And as was stated, some of our political views differed. But it mattered not, to either of us. Friend he was. Friend he will stay...
