Bina Joan WellsBlockOBina Joan Wells, 94, of Richwood, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

She was born December 9, 1926 in Richwood to Joseph and Fern (Chapman) Wiley.  In 1945 she married Calvin L. Wells in South Carolina where he was stationed for training, following enlistment in the U.S. Army Corps. Calvin preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Wells, DVM and a brother, John Wiley.

Joan was comptroller and office manager at Pennwalt Corporation in Delaware over twenty years, then headed up the Accounting Department at Pennwalt’s Atochem facility in Marion for ten more years.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richwood and a 76-year member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served for years as Treasurer.  She belonged to Mt. Carmel Chapter 42 in Richwood until the Chapter joined Mary Chapter 9 in Marysville.  Joan also belonged to Carpe Diem.  She was a dedicated volunteer, accumulating thousands of hours, at University Hospitals in Columbus, Memorial Hospital in Marysville, and the Richwood Civic Center.  Joan especially enjoyed working the voting polls, which she did for several years.  She loved joining friends for weekly card games, and was a devout Ohio State Buckeye fan, attending home games, and traveling to all but one of the Big Ten stadiums over the years.

She is survived by daughters Mary (Tom) McVay of Bellaire, Florida, and Barbara (Dave) Kaelber of Richwood; seven grandchildren Amy (Lindsay) Newman, Ann (Russ) McAlister, Travis (Arpita) Wells, Joanna (Gary) Anderson, Jonathan (Kori) Anderson, Kate (Nick) Waddell, and Laura Millisor; ten great-grandchildren, Moira, Evan, Lewis, Stella, Ava, Luke, Holly, Maren, Aiden and Ellis. Her grand and great-grand children were the love of her life.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood with longtime friend Rev. Cindy Berkshire of the White Lily Chapel officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.
