Mary Gay (Schambs) Mowery
Mary Gay (Schambs) MoweryYellowRoseMary Gay (Schambs) Mowery, 85 of Richwood, died peacefully Friday July 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph G Mowery, a son Guy C. Mowery, a brother Edward Schambs IV, sister-in-law Lucille Schambs and a very dear friend James K. Thompson.

She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on January 14th, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward Andrew Schambs Jr. and Gay Josephine (Cramer) Schambs.

She was a graduate of Magnetic Springs High School, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richwood.

She retired from Ohio Edison Company after 28 years of service. After retirement she worked for a period of time, as a part time teller at the Richwood Banking Company. She served as clerk for the Village of Richwood from the year 2000 until resigning in 2004. She also served on the Village Board of Zoning Appeals.

She was a member of the former "Better Mothers Club" of the Ohio Child Conservation League and served on the board of the North Union Athletic Complex (NUAC) for several years. She was also a member of the Richwood Civic Center.

She enjoyed traveling, having traveled to six countries in Europe, and many western and southwestern states several times. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to casinos, embroidering and crocheting, but mostly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Joseph Mowery and his wife Alison of Delaware and Lisa (Mowery) Martin and her husband Mike of Richwood.
Grandchildren: Natalie Campbell and her husband Samuel; Melissa Gray and her husband Michael; Adam Mowery and his wife Sarah; Laura Mowery; Kelly Dobyns and her husband Jeremy and Philip Mowery. Mary Gay Mowery was the proud Great Grandma for 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Esther Anderson and Anita Davis as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood, Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Friends may call two hours prior to the service beginning at 5 pm at the funeral home in Richwood.
Private burial will take place in the Claibourne Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Richwood First United Methodist Church 18 S. Fulton St. Richwood, Ohio 43344 and the Richwood Civic Center 21 N. Franklin St. Richwood, Ohio 43344

I have so many good memories of Mary Gay. The thing I remember most was her smile and laugh. She was one of those people who made up the fabric of Richwood. Everyone knew her! Sending thoughts and prayers to her entire family. I know you lost a treasure.

Mary Gay was my Dad’s first cousin and I have lots of memories of family gatherings with the Cramer family. I always thought Mary Gay was so pretty and so much fun. She always seemed so upbeat and had a great sense of humor. She was a very special person and I admired her very much. She will be missed by family and friends. Prayers to all. Love, Sue

I have fond memories of the late 50's and early 60's when we were neighbors on North Clinton St., particularly of the little boys of the neighborhood all playing together - the Mowerys, the Cowgills, the Georges and perhaps a few others all playing together.  They were good neighbors.

Joel and Lisa  after a high school basketball game I received a note with money enclosed from Mary Gay....seems she won a bet with a friend from the school we played and she wanted me to have the money.She was a Great Lady

I met Mary Gay when she was still in high school. I remember vividly her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. As the years advanced she carried those traits along with her. There could be no better legacy.

So sorry to hear of Mary Gay’s passing. I really enjoyed working with her at Ohio Edison. I loved her laugh. She will be missed by many. We had several great times going on weekend adventures with the Ohio Edison Girl’s Club. My prayers go out to her family.
