Dean R. Somerlot, 67, of Newark, died Friday, April 2, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born February 10, 1954 in Richwood, OH to the late Raymond Somerlot and Helen (Cramer) Weaver.
Dean graduated from Denison University and worked in the Newark City Schools as a teacher and coach for 35 years. He continued to work as a substitute teacher in retirement. He was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. He enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with family and friends. He was like a second dad to so many that loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth “Beth” (Cole) Somerlot; three children, Shaen (Jessica) Somerlot of Dublin, OH, Ryan (Mary Clare Zavada) Somerlot of Crofton, MD, and Sarah (Chris) Somerlot Miller of Pataskala, OH; step-son, Douglas (Jami) Cole formerly of Newark now of Maricopa, AZ; four grandchildren, Stella, Miles Dean, and Isabelle Somerlot, and Kyleigh Cole; one brother, Criss (Rita) Somerlot; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Somerlot and Helen and George Weaver; and mother-in-law, Mary Cole.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the athletic department which was an important part of his life.“Heritage Athletic Boosters”, 314 Granville Rd., Newark, OH 43055.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Claibourne Cemetery in Richwood, OH.

May God envelop you in wings of grace and ease your sorrows. Dean was always a good friend, &all-around great guy. I was a schoolmate for what seems so long ago now. I am sorry to hear of his passing, but we should all rejoice in his reaching the next level of our existence. May God bless
