Elizabeth M. Bookman
Elizabeth M. BookmanCrucifixElizabeth M. Bookman,89,of LaRue, best known as Betty, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter in Prospect, with her husband of 68 years by her side.

She was born August 9, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Hugo J. and Elizabeth (Hofer) Wilms Sr., she was also preceded in death by three infant sons: Bernard, Jerome and Matthew, two grandchildren and two brothers: Hugo and Peter Wilms and a special cousin Virginia Raab.

She was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaRue. Betty was very dedicated and involved in her faith and church. If there was an activity going on at St. Joe’s, she and her family were there. She very much appreciated the loving care shown to her by Fathers Buffer and Tennant of St. Mary’s in Marion in the past couple years.

Most important to Betty were family and her friends. She spent hours communicating with everyone on her iPad to stay in contact with them, and seeing pictures of all their activities.

She not only crocheted and knitted premie hats and booties for Right to Life, She knitted toe warmers for the veterans for years, mittens and hats for school kids who needed them, and she crocheted afghans for each of her children and grandchildren. She was a very giving lady.

Surviving is her husband, Kenneth H. Bookman, they were married May 2, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their children: Mike Bookman of Deshler, Glenn Bookman of Winter Garden, Florida, Therese Trout of LaRue, Chris Ritchie of Prospect, Cindy (Phil) Bradstreet of Howey in the Hills, Florida, Paula Combs of LaRue and Maripat LeVally of LaRue.
14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson
Brother: Roman (Helga) Wilms of Munich, Germany.

A special thanks to her great granddaughter, Brittany Ritchie, a nursing student at MTC for the wonderful care she provided during this time.

There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life is being considered at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to the EWTN Global Catholic Network (Eternal World Television Network) helping people grow in their love and understanding of God and His infinite mercy every single day and also to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 .

Aunt Betty was my Mom's first cousin, and as close as sisters.  I too have fond memories of the family visiting us, making the trip from Ohio to Wisconsin.

I was hoping that we could have made a trip down there to see you all but with this virus going on, that did not happen.

Sending you all love, healing and a lifetime of loving memories.

My heart is broken to hear of your loving mother, wife and grandmother's passing. I always loved Betty and admired her devotion to the Lord, especially when I would see her walking to church every morning praying her rosary. She was always so happy and such a ray of light. So sorry, she will be missed.
