William G. “Bill” HicksFlagWilliam G. “Bill” Hicks, 80, of LaRue passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Bill was born November 2, 1940 in Sharkey, KY to the late Willis and Rusha (Kegley) Hicks. He graduated from the LaRue High School, class of 1959. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the US Army. After being discharged and returning home, he began working at  Quaker Oats  in Marion. He worked in the shipping department until Quaker closed their doors. He then worked at LaRue Millworks before he retired.

Bill always loved the great outdoors. He especially enjoyed raising horses and tinkering around on his farm. Going to auctions was one of his guilty pleasures and he always enjoyed getting the last winning bid.

Bill is survived by his siblings: Jack (Sue) Hicks of Apollo Beach, FL, Barb Adams of Marion, Jo Creamer and Dan (Claudia) Hicks, both of LaRue, Rick Hicks of Cardington, Pam Warner of Marion, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Preceding him in death were grandparents, brothers-in-law Jerry Adams and Jim Warner, and sister-in-law Nancy Hicks.

Due to COVID19, Services for Bill will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to First Church of the Brethren, 860 E. Church Street, Marion, OH 43302

Huge memories of this man going back to LaRue-Greencamp days when I could have slept in his shoe. As a wee lad I was awestruck by this giant of a man and have been ever since. I will miss that chin, and the giant smile perched above it.

I am so sorry to read of Bill’s passing.  I always enjoyed chatting with him about his most recent auction purchases.  There was often one or two salt cellars that were just a bit different than he had in his collection.  Fly high with the angels, Bill.  I am picturing that big smile .

So so sad that our area has lost another good guy. We always saw him with a smile on his face no matter what was going on. He always just made you feel good when you saw him because he was so happy. Of course, he might share an ornery joke with you too! The Hick's family has our sincere sorrow for their lose and our prayers.

Bill was a member of friendliest and happiest families that I’ve ever had the privilege to know. Their smiles and wonderful disposition’s started with Willie and ran all the way through to Pam. Bill was a very good man. He teased me a lot when I was a kid and he always did so with that big smile on his face. Sending my love to Jack, Cool Hand and all of my wonderful old friends in the Hicks family.
