Richard “Dick” Gray
Richard “Dick” GrayWheatRichard “Dick” Gray, 87 of Richwood, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 10, 2021 at the Bluebird Retirement Community.

He was born June 25, 1933 in Richwood to the late Bernard Core and Dorothea Elizabeth (Baumgartner) Gray. He was also preceded in death five days prior by his wife, Emma Lynn (Boaz) Gray. They were married on September 22, 1952 in Indiana. And a grandson, John Steilyn Gray-Martin.

A hard worker and good steward of the land, he spent his whole life on the family farm. He was an enterprising farmer who didn’t necessarily follow the trends but carved out his own way of doing things.

Dick was a member of the Magnetic Springs United Methodist Church. He served on the Richwood Independent Fair Board for 25 years. He also belonged to the former Richwood Lions Club and various farming associations, including the Union County Young Farmers Association, later the Ohio Young Farmers Association, as well as FFA. He and Emma Lynn loved to travel.

One of Dick’s passions was wood carving, making various unique and precious works of art, often donating them to charity, which would reap great benefits for the organization.

He is survived by sons: John David (Linda) Gray of Radcliff, Kentucky; James A. (Judy) Gray of Richwood; Stuart A. (Christy) Gray of Richwood; and Thomas Richard (Kim) Gray of Powell; grandchildren: Betsy Ann (Tony) Baer, Casey (Lucas) Daum, Michael (Natalie) Gray, Tyler (Holly) Gray, Amie Gray, Delaney Gray and Jamison Gray; great grandchildren: Sam, Levi, Cora, Micah, Henry, Harrison, Serour, Emmalynn and Eli; two brothers, Don Gray, Westerville; Robert Gray, Lewis Center; two sisters, Ruth Ann Wynn, Columbus; and Linda McNamee, Richwood.

Public graveside services for both Dick and Emma Lynn will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Claibourne Cemetery with Pastor Judy Cramer officiating. There will be private family calling hours.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Magnetic Springs United Methodist Church at 113 Olive Street Magnetic Springs, OH 43036 and Chapel Hill House, P.O. Box 499, Prospect, OH 43342.
