Roland “Jake” Wood
Roland “Jake” WoodRC AirplaneRoland “Jake” Wood, 85, of Richwood, died Wednesday evening December 30, 2020 at the Memorial Hospital in Marysville.

He was born December 17, 1935 in Richwood to the late Vernon and Hazel (Jerew) Wood, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann (Beeney), they were married May 16, 1986 and she died September 10, 2019, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Wilma Jean Bartels; a son, Richard Wood and a brother Donald Wood.

Jake was a Drafting Engineer, working for ITT in Raleigh, North Carolina. He had previously worked at the Marion Power Shovel and finally ended his working career with Union County as a Juvenile Corrections Officer.

Jake was a member of the Christ the Rock Church, near Richwood. He loved the idea of flying; he built model airplanes and had his pilot’s license. He was very skilled with the ability to build or make whatever he needed.

Our deepest sympathy to all. He and Phyllis were great neighbors and will be missed but they were always together and now once again. Ashley thought for years that santa and his wife lived down the road during the summer and she had to behave ! Will cherish those memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We are sorry for your loss of Roland. We got to see him a lot last year when we played euchre at the Civic Center. Jake's dad was my first cousin.  Vernons mother and my mother were sisters.  Roland. was a smart fellow. I remember his dissecting a frog in our biology class. I about fainted!

We can't begin to say how sorry we are.  We both loved him very much.  I remember Ron telling me when we first met about how Uncle Jake liked to explain things.  Lol, I found out first hand.  He explained whatever it was I asked about, but he forgot to "dummy it down" so I ended up still not knowing anything.  We're going to miss him and his sense of humor.  He was a wonderful man.

My Daddy..I will always miss hearing your calm reassuring voice...One of the strongest men I've ever known. This picture is how I will always remember you. I'm not sure I've ever met anyone who loved life and people the way you did....Young at heart in the truest sense of the word. <3

Our heartfelt condolences for Roland's passing.  I know he is at rest now.  The last several years have been difficult, I'm sure.  Roland was my only uncle - I am so happy that my family had the opportunity to meet him and spend a little time with him and Phyllis during our short visits to Richwood. There aren't many of Wood's around Richwood any more.  Rest in peace.

Jean and Jake were members of our Van club.   Space Coast Vans.  Jake wired our club trailer with speakers and the best light show .We were blessed to met Jean and Phyllis.  When Jake moved to NC he and Phyllis opened their home to us.  There we met Paul and had a great weekend touring the city and playing cards.  They made us feel so welcomed.  They came to visit us anytime they came to FL.  We were sadden to hear of Jake’s passing. Although we will miss our long conversations we have our Jake stories and they bring a smile to our faces. Thinking of the family as they go through this difficult time.  Prayers and love to  the family.
