Albert John "Al" Habinak

Albert John (Al) Habinak passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2020 surrounded by family and his beloved dog, Jack. A private mass will be held April 29, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Stillwater, OK.

Al, age 90, devoted husband of Sarah Speyer Habinak, wonderful father of four beautiful children, Mary (Dr. Gilbert) Emde of Stillwater, OK, Karen (Rick) Green of Pittsburgh, PA, Ann Habinak Stillwater, OK, and Tim (Alice) Habinak of College Station, TX. He was a loving “papa” to Rachael (Dr. Spencer) Lindsey, Mark and Kevin Emde and Justin, Nathan and Ryan Habinak. Elsie Lindsey, his great granddaughter, referred to him as Big Papa. Seeing his grandchildren and great granddaughter always brought a smile to his face. He was very proud of his family.

He was born on April 29, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to Anna Durkot and John Habinak. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he played football under the legendary Woody Hayes. He took pride in playing in the Salad Bowl and looked forward to the annual Cradle of Coaches reunion. Al served in the Air Force in Korea – The Forgotten War. He was fortunate to re-visit Korea, a Korea sponsored program to show their gratitude to veterans.

He met his wife Sarah while coaching and teaching in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. They celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage together. Al changed careers to industrial sales and moved the family from Ohio to Illinois, Missouri, and Texas.
The family camped throughout much of the United States. Al and Sarah enjoyed traveling the world to destinations such as Hawaii, Holland, Australia, Germany, Russia, Indonesia, China, Brazil, and India.

For years Al got up every morning and watched The Price is Right. Al and Sarah went to California, had back stage passes and met Bob Barker. He was also a fan of Wheel of Fortune. He went to New Orleans and sat in the studio audience; they met Pat and Vanna.

After retiring, Al started a business making Sweet Jalapeno Relish called “Alberto’s” and spent his time marketing his product at craft shows. He was quite the salesman and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He will be greatly missed.
