I got to know Olin about nine years ago when I become interested in the story of his sister Fern and her husband's fishing camp at Hoist Bay in Minnesota in what is now Voyageurs National Park. Olin was generous in sharing his memories and letting my copy his photos. His stories and photos are now part of the historic files at the Park headquarters. The Hoist Bay camp is now in the register of National Historic Sites and is being restored by the Park Service. The story I like best is how Olin and his brother surprised Fern and Ted by showing up in 1938 when the Munsons were just getting started with their building projects. The boys had to tramp along an abandoned rail line through the bust to get to reach the camp. They immediately pitched in to help with the construction. Olin was an authentic person. I admired his continued activity in wood cutting in his woods on through his nineties. I am entering my nineties and still enjoy woodcutting. I hope I can keep up with Olin's pace. I am fortunate I got to know him.

I meant to say that Olin and his brothers showed up at the Munsons camp and not just a brother. Olin also shared pictures with me of a cross country auto trip he took with two high school classmates shortly after they graduated. Those are precious pictures that I hope will not be lost.
