Charles Weston "Chuck" McNamee
Charles Weston Softball ManCharles Weston “Chuck” McNamee, 76 of Essex, died peacefully Thursday morning May 10, 2018 at the Marion General Hospital surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

He was born on October 31, 1941 at the home farm on Patterson Rd. to John W. and Martha (Patterson) McNamee, his mom survives on the farm.

Chuck was a 1959 graduate of the Richwood High School. He had formerly worked at the Marion Power Shovel, Whirlpool and B.F. Goodrich, but his main occupation throughout the years was that of a farmer.

Chuck was a State FFA Degree honoree, he kept up the generations of hog farming on the family farm that still goes on today. He showed steers, sheep and hogs at countless fairs all over the country. Chuck was known for his McNamee Show Pigs and later the Rush Creek Rabbits, helping many youth with their 4-H projects.

He also had a passion for sports, most notably fastpitch softball, he first started pitching for the former Richwood Athletic Club, then the Hunt Milling Team, he was also known as a “hired gun” pitcher for the Marion Industrial leagues. Over the years he has passed his knowledge and passion of pitching to countless girls through his pitching lessons. Chuck also enjoyed his time as a basketball referee.

Chuck was a longtime member of the Rush Creek (Essex) United Methodist Church, member of the former Essex K of P, National Swine Registry, helped form the Richwood Ringer Slingers. Chuck enjoyed trap shooting and going to farm auctions, it also can be said that he could tell a story or two. He appreciated his close ties with the local Amish community.

Chuck was very proud of his upbringing on Patterson Rd., which carries on today with the family farm still being a “Family Farm”.

Surviving along with his mother are his wife, Linda (Gray) McNamee whom he married September 10, 1961 at the Prospect Baptist Church, their sons: Scott (Lisa) McNamee and Mark McNamee both of Essex, grandchildren: Jennifer (Kyle) Jones and Grant (Jackee) McNamee

We are all so very sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. The community will seem very different with his presence. As Andy said to us last evening at the first softball tournament game, maybe the girls will have Chuck looking over them during the tournament run.

There were few people who could get a smile out of me when I would get down on myself in a game. In this case, on the mound. But there was always a voice that rang above the rest. I could block out every one but the one I wanted to hear. Chuck taught me many lessons, including how to pitch. I loved him dearly and always will. I hope there is a group of girls in heaven who need to know the importance of pushups and closing the gate. Because something tells me Chuck isn’t ready to stop teaching. I will miss him and am grateful for all the hugs over the years. My deepest condolences to Chuck’s family and friends. With Love - “Big Girl”

Dear Neighbors,

I am so sorry to hear about Chuck; only comfort now is knowing his suffering is over. I don’t have many childhood memories that don’t involve the McNamee family in some way, and I will always cherish those thoughts always. I am sorry that I am not able to make it there in person to offer my thoughts and prayers; but I am thinking of all of you at this time.

Thoughts and prayers,

Gert
