Gertrude Ann Pierce Cowgill |
 Gertrude Ann Pierce Cowgill, 98 of Marysville, formerly of Richwood died early Thursday morning, December 17, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living in Marysville. She was born December 9, 1917 in Richwood to the late Pearl and Mary Priscilla (Bell) Pierce.
On June 19, 1940 in Greenup, Kentucky she married George Cowgill and he died June 28, 1974. She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters: William Pierce; Fred Pierce; Harvey Pierce; Wilbur Pierce; David Pierce; Margaret Pierce; Martha Pierce.
She was a member of the former Claibourne Rebekah Lodge #267. Gertrude was an active long-time member and volunteer of the Richwood Civic Center where she played the kazoo in the Kitchen Band. She enjoyed playing cards and going out to dinner with her friends. Gertrude was known for being a great cook and baker and no one, whether surprise or planned guest, ever left her home hungry.
She had no children of her own, but was very actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews: Samuel Pierce, Dublin; Barbara Wilson (deceased); Carolyn Kater, Vermillion; Connie (Marvin) Rizor, Marysville; and Rex (Cindy) Pierce, Magnetic Springs. She also enjoyed her time with numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood, Pastor Pam Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Gertrude was always a good neighbor. Once when we both lived on the corners of Pearl and East Ottawa, I took her something I had baked and she wouldn't bring back the container until she had baked something in return. As a result I still have her recipe for "Coffee Sheet Squares." It's a little faded but I think it is worth a try again.
She blessed many, now may she rest in peace.

What a sweet lady ! She always was happy I worked with her at Livingston Store during Christmas. I can still see her walking around on the old wooden floor at the store.Our sympathy to the family.

I have fond memories of Aunt Gertude. I remember her smile, laugh, and homemade noodles! Enjoyed going to her house for Easter. What a wonderful woman! Sending love to all of you!
