Judd Robert Hecker |
Judd Robert Hecker, 71 of Green Camp, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Marion General Hospital. He was born July 26, 1943 in Marion to the late Edward and Marcella (Page) Hecker.
On June 17, 1966 he married the former Shirley Ellis in Prospect, and she died December 24, 2000. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Hecker and two infant brothers.
Judd graduated from Prospect High School in 1961. He moved to Green Camp after the birth of his second daughter, where he lived his entire life. He worked as a laborer for Marion Power Shovel, Quaker Oats, and Honda. He was a Cleveland sports fan, especially for the Browns, and was a passionate lover of baseball his entire life, as a player and a fan. He played men's summer league softball for numerous years and once attended a tryout for the "big leagues."
Judd loved to take his family camping at local campgrounds, especially Indian Lake. He took several fishing trips to Canada and liked to sing karaoke at the White Swan. The Berwick in Green Camp and The Green Camp Dairy Bar were his favorite places to eat.
Having cookouts and spending time with family was most important to him, especially during the holidays. He LOVED to give! He took delight in watching his grandson Jordan play basketball and relished the short time he got to spend with his granddaughter, Peyton...he really got a kick out of hearing her say "PaPa". His last special moment was on May 23rd when he got to see his grandson Jordan in his cap and gown after his high school graduation.
Judd's true compassion showed when he got to babysit his "grand-dog" Missy. He looked forward to his "visitation" with this special dog. He was an "animal dad" himself, giving animals a deserving home his entire life.
He appreciated all of his friends in Green Camp and Prospect and the support and concern he received from these communities.
He is survived by two daughters, Carmen Hecker, Delaware; Tracey (Tim) Cornely, Mt. Dora, Florida; two grandchildren, Jordan Hecker, Delaware; Peyton Weaver, Columbus; a sister, Ilah Meddles, Prospect; a brother, Carl Hecker, Marion; numerous nieces and nephews; a special family friend, Lee Markley, whom his girls referred to as "Uncle Lee; and many exceptional friends and acquaintances from his beloved "home towns" of Prospect and Green Camp.
Memorial services will be Monday, June 8, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect with Pastor Carolyn Christman officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 6 PM and are asked to have their favorite memory of Judd to share during the service if they wish.

I am sadden to learn of the loss of a great men. I grew up next door ( on the other side of the alley) to Judd. His daughter Heidi was like a big sister to me. Judd always let me come over to play. He use to walk Heidi and I down to the Dairy bar to get cones with faces on them. You will greatly be missed. Thank you Judd for some great childhood memories!!
