Olivia O. "Ollie" Kepler |
Olivia O. "Ollie" Kepler, 96, of Prospect, died April 12, 2015 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky. She was born on December 11, 1918 in Sherman to the late John and Teresa Wolfe. On August 11, 1945 she married William R. (Bill) Kepler, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1980. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Daniel, and Harry Wolfe.
Ollie is survived by her son, Richard (Christine) Kepler, Richwood; and daughter, Sharon Kepler, Texas; and a sister, Edna Porter, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patrick Kepler, New Bloomington, and her own “Nan,” Shannon Kepler, Vandalia, and Ivanna and Link Kepler of Texas. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and her special care-giver, Barbara Barnett, Marion who took care of her for the last 4 years.
Ollie graduated from Springfield High School in Akron, in 1938. Ollie was a long-time resident of Prospect and most recently resided with her son, Richard, in Richwood. She retired from B. F. Goodrich in Green Camp in 1982. Prior to that, she worked for the Stan Speers Agency in Prospect. She also served as a cook at a prisoner of war camp in Challis, Idaho, and was quite proud of her service there.
Ollie was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She was a fabulous cook, homemaker, and seamstress. A tireless worker, Ollie volunteered extensively in Marion and Prospect.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Prospect Senior Citizens and the Lions Club, all in Prospect. She volunteered at Smith Clinic in Marion for many years and she could be found working every Fourth of July at the Prospect Park, as well as serving as a voter registration volunteer during elections.
Although she worked tirelessly in the community, Ollie will be best remembered for her gardening expertise. Her flower beds were immaculate, and in her tiny produce garden she could grow enough vegetables to feed a family of ten! She had a love of everything “old-fashioned” and planted many heirloom varieties of flowers and vegetables. She loved to share her plants and knowledge, and delighted in showing visitors around her yard.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the funeral home in Prospect. Interment will take place in Prospect Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Prospect Senior Citizens, 318 N Elm St, Prospect, OH 43342.
