tTo the family of Mr. Roller,
I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Roller's passing. I have many great memories of my time in his class and of many football games where my Dad kept stats for his Bloom-Carroll football teams. One of my best memories is of his induction to the  BC Hall of Fame 3 years ago....how lovely of him to remember me with a hug and lots of laughs after more than 30 years. I pray for peace and comfort for your family and a swift journey to Heaven for Mr. Roller , pretty sure my Dad will be there to greet him. God be with you in the coming weeks.

Paula and family - I was so shocked and sad when my mom told me the news this afternoon.  John was a great mentor and inspiration during my time at Bucyrus City Schools. I have looked at him as almost another grandfather after mine passed away. I wish I would have gotten the chance to let him know I am working toward my school treasurer's license!  I sincerely appreciate all the time he let me spend with my mom while she was working and in turn helping me learn the central office ropes.  You and your family will be in my prayers!

Dear Paula and family . . .

My heart is heavy.  I have lost a dear friend, as well as an admired and trusted colleague.  Most importantly, we have lost an exceptional example of the fulfilling and successful life of husband, father and servant-leader.  As you know, I first met John in 1970.  We had both just been hired as teachers and coaches by Bloom-Carroll Local Schools; me as head football and assistant track coach and John as an assistant in the same two sports.  If memory serves, he had no coaching experience and - initially - little desire to gain such experience.  In no time, however, he was "smitten" by the challenges and rewards of coaching.  We were often darn near "glued at the hip", as our personal friendship and professional relationship evolved; not to mention the close friendship that blossomed between our two families.

John soon became an invaluable component of both the football and track programs.  I came to rely on him a great deal and in many ways.  Indeed, he was very likely directly responsible for much of the success we had.  John's many positive qualities reveal why he became a Mid-State League and Bloom-Carroll Hall of Fame Coach, as well as an exceptional teacher and administrator.

Even more impressive and noteworthy, perhaps, was John's demeanor and outlook over these past few years, as his health declined and he contracted one serious illness or health condition after another.  Never have I seen someone with so many health issues be so continuously positive, not to mention uplifting to others.  I shall miss him greatly, as will you; our blessed memories to console us.

Dick Taylor

Dear Roller family-I thought by now I'd have some words that could make sense of John's passing and what you all must be feeling.  But, there aren't any words.  The best I can put together is how sorry and sad I am for you all.  John was a hero to so many and will be greatly missed.  My deepest, heartfelt sympathy reaches out to all of you.  I hope you all are able to find some peace and are able to continue on with John in your hearts.  What a brave man for all he has gone through and what a lucky and blessed man he was having such a loving, caring family and friends.  We are all left here to carry on his legacy.
May John have eternal peace and happiness in heaven....and watch over us all as a guardian angel.  That's what he would want, I think.
May God be with you all in this sorrowful time.
Love,
Michelle

Mr. Roller was such an influence on my life. He was my football/track coach for 4 years at Bloom Carroll. As one of football captains he showed that leading by example was more important than words. I was a student helper for him as guidance counselor. We shared a lot of time in my high school years. All good memories from Matt being the ball boy, the team picnics, being a Rolleraid, running errands but most of all was practice. Mr. Roller never accepted mediocrity from us, no excuses and to take personal responsibility. He helped to shape many of us into the men we became.
God made a special person in Mr. Roller and "John" used his abilities God gave him so that many youth would be influenced in a spectacular way.
With tears of sadness and joy. I am truly blessed to have had you as a coach and mentor Mr. Roller. We hugged at your induction and will hug again in heaven. God has a new Angel
Prayers of comfort for your family.
