James Orville Bayes
James Orville BayesFlagJames Orville Bayes, 72 of Richwood, died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Union County.  He was born July 5, 1942 in Pike County to the late John Raymond and Thelma (Robinett) Bayes.

On September 7, 1959 he married the former Erika Michel in Bad Kissingen, Germany, and she survives in Richwood.

He was a great husband, wonderful father, an exceptional grandfather and great-grandfather.  His greatest enjoyment was being with his wife, children and grandchildren and his new great-granddaughter.  James enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and very much being at home.  A veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany from 1959 to 1962, he was a member of Delaware American Legion Post 888.  He was a wonderful and gentle person.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed working on cars and racing stock cars.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert (Amellia) Bayes, Madison, Alabama, and their children, Joshua Bayes and Corey Hege; James (Sandy Teague) Bayes, Jr., Marysville, and his children, Tyler Bayes and Joshua Yoder; two daughters, April (Benson) Laird, Magnetic Springs, and their son, Travis Laird; Sharon (Ben Herriott) Hellwarth, Richwood, and her children, Alan Hellwarth, Amber (Devin) Carlyle, Brock Hellwarth; a great-granddaughter, Swayze Carlyle; two brothers, Ronald (Inez) Bayes, Marysville; Robert (Linda) Bayes, Marysville; a sister, Darlene (Donald) Goddard, Richwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Bayes, and a sister, Celia Green.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Jeremy Stout officiating.  Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
