George Robert "Bob" Welsh
George Robert Sheep ShearingGeorge Robert “Bob” Welsh age 80 of Richwood, died Wednesday morning October 9, 2013 at Heartland of Marysville.
He was born May 30, 1933 in Delaware County to the late Wattie Lee and Roxie Vianna (Evans) Welsh, he was also predeceased on March 28, 2007 by his wife Patricia Ann (Battles) whom he married May 24, 1969. Also preceding him were 3 brothers: Ross Lee Welsh, Harold “Ted” Welsh and Paden “Gene” Welsh.

Bob served our country in the Army from 1953 thru 1962, receiving the National Defense Service Medal of Honor. He was a carpenter and farmer by trade, raising sheep and goats for local 4-H and FFA Children. He loved sharing his wealth of knowledge, of how to care for the farm animals, with each child and giving them moral support when they showed their finished project at the local fairs and the Ohio State Fair.
Bob was a very talented sheep shearer, receiving many awards such as: State Jr. Sheep Shearing Champion in 1950, National Jr. Sheep Shearing Champion in 1952, National Sheep Shearing Champion in 1963 and Canadian National Sheep Shearing Champion in 1963 and 1965.

He was a faithful and devoted care giver for many years to his wife Pat in her later years.

In recent years, due to failing health, he spent his days resting quietly at home watching the daily happenings of life on the farm and enjoying frequent visits from his great grandchildren. Exploring the farm and sharing their many found treasures: a stick, an egg, a bird feather, sheep’s wool, a willy worm, a rock, a beautiful flower or a bean sprout, with Pawpa Bob will be cherished memoires, never to be forgotten by Kailee, Cohen and Lailenn, three of his seven beloved great grandchildren.

Surviving are his devoted children: Lou Ann (Scott) Davis of Marysville and Terry Eugene (Sharon) Welsh of Essex, Grandchildren: Alicia Renee (Logan) Rife, Kea Ann (Nathan) Burns, Lori Beth (Mic) Wallace, Elaina Rea (Terry) Baker and Charles Richard  Welsh

I will miss our conversations from time to time, I worked with Bob, building new homes during the 1960's & 70's. He introduced me to apricot brandy during the winter, and hot Miller Life beer, fresh out of his old 1949 International truck in the summer. Said he liked warm beer because when he came back to the truck it was still there!!!

So sorry to hear that Bob passed away.  We have lost a good friend and long time neighbor.  Every so often on WOSU 34 they show sheep shearing at the Ohio State Fair from past years and have caught his name mentioned as sponsoring one of the classes.  He dedicated his whole life to his sheep, the farm and his family of which he was very proud.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
