Betty P. Derringer
Betty P. DerringerDAV-Auxiliary   Betty P. (Rice) Derringer, age 86, of LaRue, died Sunday July 14, 2013 at 4:00 AM at the home of her daughter. She was born July 5, 1927 near Caledonia to the late Sheldon C. and Florence H. (Key) Rice. On April 6, 1946 she married Carlos H. Derringer and he died September 6, 1983.

She is survived by four children; James M. (Betty J.) Derringer of  Roachdale, Indiana, Jeffrey C. (Jane) Derringer of  Kenton, Judy L. (Dennis) Hahn of Marion and Joseph D. Derringer of LaRue.  Grandchildren; Amy C. (Keith) Knecht, Wesley A. Hamilton, Colin Hahn, Jamie M. Craig, Amber M. Coyer, and J. C. Coyer.  Great Grandchildren; Carly, Alaina, and Chase Knecht, Gabrielle and Marissa Craig, Emelee Earick and Kamryn Mathys. Many Nieces and  Nephews. Sister; Rosemary Latimer of Kenton and sister-in-law Marilyn (Derringer) Surber of LaRue. She was preceded in death by sisters; Marilyn Gompf , Frieda E. Ledman and brother Donald E. Rice.

Betty graduated from LaRue High School in 1945. Spent most of her life in the LaRue and Indian Lake areas.  She worked in secretarial positions including Dick Granger Realty retiring from the County Commissioners’ Office in 1996.  Her memberships are; LaRue United Methodist Church, member and past District Deputy of Zenith Temple of Pythian Sisters, LaRue Mothers Club, D.A.V. and V.F.W. Auxiliaries both of Kenton, Widows member of Bellefontaine Elks, Eagles Auxiliary and Women of Moose both of Indian Lake. Her favorite hobbies were lunching with friends, reading and puzzles.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday July 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue.  Minister will be the Rev. Edward W. Fugate.  Burial in the LaRue Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday.

Those who wish may make contributions to; American Cancer Society, LaRue United Methodist Church, Multiple Sclerosis in memory of her niece Janet (Derringer) Plas, or the Marion County Humane Society.

Ralph and I send our deepest sympathy to Betty's family. In years, past, we were envolved in many local activities together and hold fond memories of those times. Take care, and know that you were her pride and joy.

Just wanted to let you all know we will keep you in our prayers and thoughts. over the years we spent alot of time with both of yur parents as we grew up traveling with the DAV. so sorry for your loss...
