I am sad to loose my friend. I obviously have not been in contact recently enough. We have spent many hours in delightful conversation together over the years. I guess as we age sometimes we are not as diligent as we could be about staying in touch. I am sorry for that. Some of my fondest memories are how much he loved to be on the stage. He could be quite a showman. His work in encouraging students to go to college and further their educations was important to many young folks. He will be missed.

To family of Don:
I will always hold a special place in my heart for him. May his joy for life continue on. It will not be the same to go home and be unable to find him somewhere or at home. Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences in your loss.
With fondest memories,

I knew Don through my friendship with Gerald Bingley. I had the best times when visiting Prospect when Don was bartending at The Legion during Michigan/Ohio State games or just tipping a few with us at The Victory. He was funny! Rest well my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Don's friends and with Bing. May your cherished memories help you through this difficult time.

Well, I loved Don so much!! I remember the first time I met him in Carlinville, IL in 1980. I fell madly in love. I was 15 years old. He was at the time Director of Admissions at Blackburn College. He was great friends with my parents, Bill & Louise Rhoades and also with Wendell and Celia Ellis. I loved laughing with him and there are too many funny stories and memories to mention. I was thinking about him this past weekend and wanted to call him but I had lost his number when I dropped my phone in the ocean last summer. . Last time I spoke with him was sometime in 2010. Rest in peace, my First Love!! You were always a light in my life and I can't wait to see you again some day! I love you, Don Gix!!!

To Don's family and friends ....
You do not know me but I feel in my heart this man was very special to many people and I just want to say I am sorry for your loss. He seemed as if he was the entertainer to many and made people happy. He made people smile. That is what it is all about. God Bless !!
