Charles L "Charlie" Bischoff
Charles L FlagCharles L. “Charlie” Bischoff age 76 of Prospect, died Monday July 2, 2012 at Heartland of Marion following a two-year illness due to a series of strokes.

He was born October 8, 1935 in Columbus to the late Carl William and Lois Ganelle (Holt) Bischoff.

On July 23, 1961 at the Green Camp United Methodist Church, he married the former Marjorie Louise (Harris) of Willoughby and she survives. Also surviving are their children: Chuck (J. R. Salinas) Bischoff and Cheryl (Kevin) Nielsen both of Prospect.

Three grandchildren: Kyle, Corey and Eric Nielsen; one brother: Fred (Shirley) Bischoff of Raymond and one sister: Louise “Dink” Parish, formerly of Green Camp; nine nieces and nephews; cousin: Joy (Ralph) Wasner of Coral Springs, Florida.

Charlie graduated from New Albany High School in 1954, following high school he served our country in the U.S. Army as a tank operator. He then graduated from Marion Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1973. He worked at B. F. Goodrich as a maintenance mechanic and foreman and later as a journeyman electrician on various commercial and industrial projects. He was tight with a dollar and coin and would sometimes work a second job for additional income. He was especially proud of insisting on and paying towards “Chuckie's” and Cheryl’s college educations.

Charlie was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 368 in Prospect as well as the Arlington Moose Lodge No. 1932 in Arlington, Texas. He had also belonged to the Elk’s Lodge No. 32 in Marion. Until recently, Charlie had been a voracious reader, a mean grill-meister, and an occasional hunter. He enjoyed vegetable gardening—sometimes tending two gardens. He also enjoyed socializing over a beer at various watering holes in and around Prospect. In later years, as he was able, he didn’t miss attending his grandsons various programs and sporting events at Pleasant Schools and American Legion Post 368 baseball games.

Friends may call Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect. Graveside Services will be held Friday July 6, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Prospect Cemetery, officiating will be the Marion County United Veterans Council.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Prospect American Legion Post 368 Baseball 308 S. Main St., Prospect, OH, 43342 or a stroke-related charity.

Dear Marj & family:

So sorry to hear of Charlies passing. But after dealing with my own Mother and her series of strokes I wouldn't wish anyone to linger under those circumstances. I know you all woild still like to have him near but your loss is heavens gain. He is going about his schedule and isn't in  bad health anymore.

I will pray for you all and be in my thoughts in the coming days and remember my talks with him in years past. God bless you all in your hours of need.

Arlene

Sorry to read about Charles death, pray the Lord will give you extra strength at this difficult time.
Last time I saw him was 15 years ago when he came to the funeral home, when my mother Cecil passed away. He loved the farm where our grandparents lived.
God Bless you all.

Marge, Chuckie & Cheryl - I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you when I saw in the paper that Chuck has passed on. I understand it has been a long & difficult struggle for you with his illness & stroke. Hopefully, you will all find peace in your hearts now that this part of the journey is complete.
On the lighter side, not a day goes by here at the shop when I look at a bent piece of conduit that goes to one of the worklights. Chuck worked & worked on that to bend it around, up & over to connect the light. It would have been much easier just to use a piece of BX but that wasn't his way of doing things. I often chuckle when I open of of the sub panels he installed where he signed it, "Charles Bischoff of Broke Dick Electric"!
Thank you for taking time to read this note. I will always cherish the time we spent together wiring this shop even though it was only 34 years ago.
Best wishes to all,
Carl Wade
