Damon W. Crabtree
Damon W. CrabtreeFlagDamon W. Crabtree, 70, of Minford, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his home.

Born January 22, 1942 in Sciotoville, Ohio, to the late Loren and Lillian Crabtree, he married Louise Renninger of Pennsylvania on March 27, 1966.  They have lived together outside of Minford since 1978. He is survived by his wife, Louise; his son, Damon (Anne) Crabtree of Marysville, OH; his daughters, Kimberly (Bruce) Cunningham of Slidell, La; Jennifer (Justin) McBee of Lucasville, OH; and Trisha (Walter) Kaer of Fairbanks, AK; 9 grandchildren; Seth, Kirsten & Chase Cunningham, Drew Crabtree, Austin, Brookelynn, & Whitney McBee, Alexis & Ian Kaer, and 3 extended grandchildren, Kayla Landman, Damian Hall and Nicholas Hatfield. He is also survived by two brothers, Don Crabtree of Leesburg, FL, Edgel (Joan) Crabtree of Bow, New Hampshire; and a sister, Mary (Larry) McDaniel of Lucasville, OH. Mr. Crabtree was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Vancil and Joel Crabtree, and one granddaughter, Brittany Crabtree.

He joined the Navy in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1964.  He was a police officer for 13 years in Harrisburg, PA, moving to Ohio in 1977 where he began working as a Security Guard for USEC from 1977 until he retired in 2007.  He then continued to work part-time for Innovative Solutions as a security escort. He was an active member and Deacon of the Tick Ridge Free Will Baptist Church, The American Legion Post #622 in Minford and a member of the Masonic Lodge #465 in Lucasville. He was a loving, husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and various other hobbies. He recently spent several months hand making a dulcimer to Auction at his Granddaughters Cancer Benefit Dinner. His life revolved around his lovely wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a light to all who knew him.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor P.J. Fitch officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday by Lucasville Masonic Lodge No. 465. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
